Chapter 5 - The Mobilization of the Sovereign Guard

By 9:00 p.m., the night sky over Dutchess County was lit by the silent, descending rotors of a twin-engine Sikorsky S-76 helicopter landing on the open pasture behind the repair shop.

Stepping off the aircraft onto the grass, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, was Arthur Ross—seventy-four years old, senior managing partner of Ross & Sterling International Legal, the supreme corporate litigator who had served Adrian’s family for four decades.

Flanking him were eight tactical operators from Moretti Sovereign Asset Protection, carrying encrypted satellite communications gear and heavy Pelican forensic cases.

Arthur Ross walked into the garage, his sharp blue eyes sweeping the bays before stopping before Adrian, Clara, and six-year-old Lily.

Arthur bowed his head with deep, solemn reverence.

"Miss Vance," Arthur said, his deep baritone carrying the unyielding weight of an empire. "The original deeds prepared by your late father have been verified through the Delaware Chancery backup servers."

"What is Marcus Vale doing in Manhattan right now, Arthur?" Adrian demanded.

Arthur tapped his tablet, illuminating the ninety-inch digital projection screen set up on the tool cabinet:

EMERGENCY PLENARY ASSEMBLY: NORTHEAST MARITIME INFRASTRUCTURE CONSORTIUM

LOCATION: HARBOR LIGHTS GRAND BALLROOM // 55 WATER STREET, NEW YORK

SCHEDULED TIME: TOMORROW // 9:00 AM

PRIMARY AGENDA: EMERGENCY EXTINGUISHMENT OF THE VANCE TRUST & LIQUIDATION OF NEWARK CONTAINER TERMINALS TO APEX GLOBAL EQUITIES ($180,000,000.00).

"Marcus Vale filed an emergency petition for testamentary receivership at four o'clock this afternoon," Arthur reported. "He presented a fraudulent certificate of death for you, Adrian, claiming your vehicle was found burned beyond recognition in an abandoned quarry outside Poughkeepsie. He is scheduled to execute the master equity transfer before the New York Stock Exchange opens at nine-thirty."

Adrian stood tall, buttoning his fresh black dress shirt, his posture radiating the absolute, uncontested dominance of a king returning to his province.

He looked at Clara, who had changed into a tailored charcoal wool suit provided by the tactical staff, wearing her late father’s silver signet compass around her neck.

Beside her stood Lily, wearing a clean navy velvet dress and brand-new leather shoes, holding her father's hand with fearless, six-year-old pride.

"Arthur," Adrian spoke into the quiet garage.

"Yes, Don Adrian?"

"Unseal the federal grand jury indictments returned ninety minutes ago under Cause Number 26-CR-9941. Scramble four armored convoys to the harbor. And tell the gatehouse at Water Street that the true owners of New York Harbor are coming to breakfast."
