Chapter 7 - The Rescue of Sarah Vance
With Colonel Vance in federal custody and the primary leadership of the weapons ring neutralized, the remaining tactical units guarding the safehouse across the city surrendered without firing a single shot.
An hour later, a convoy of black federal SUVs pulled up outside a secure safehouse in the northern suburbs.
Noah sat in the backseat of the lead vehicle, his small hands clutching the precision rifle case tightly against his chest, his eyes fixed on the front door of the house as federal agents swept the interior.
The rear door clicked open, and Sergeant Miller stepped aside, nodding respectfully.
"Area's secure, kiddo," Miller smiled gently.
Noah bolted out of the car, sprinting up the front steps and bursting through the shattered front door of his home.
"Mom!" Noah screamed, his voice breaking.
From the hallway, wrapped in a warm wool blanket and looking pale but entirely unharmed, Sarah Vance stepped out, her eyes widening with overwhelming, tearful joy as she saw her son rushing toward her.
"Noah!" she gasped, dropping to her knees just as the boy collided into her arms, burying his face in his shoulder as they both collapsed onto the hardwood floor in a tangle of relieved sobs.
A moment later, heavy footsteps echoed on the porch.
David Vance walked into the hallway, removing his Kevlar vest and tossing it onto a chair. He looked down at his wife and son, a profound, weary smile touching his weathered face. He knelt down beside them, wrapping his strong arms around both of them, pulling his family into an unbreakable, protective embrace.
"You safe?" David whispered into his wife’s hair.
"I am now," Sarah smiled, kissing Noah’s forehead repeatedly. "Thanks to our little sniper."

Noah looked up at his father, his hazel eyes shining with a mixture of lingering trauma and fierce, unshakeable pride. "We beat them, Dad."
"We beat them, son," David agreed softly. "And the world is a whole lot safer tonight because you held your ground."
