Chapter 7 - The Downfall of a Dynasty

"That tape... is an AI fabrication!" Victoria shrieked, her voice pitching up into a wild, screeching register that completely obliterated her high-society veneer. "It's forged! Harold Finch forged it to blackmail me!"
"Harold Finch signed a full federal plea agreement at four o'clock this morning, Victoria," US Attorney Vance stated coldly, stepping toward the head of the table. "He provided the original micro-cassette tape, the bank transfer receipts verifying the fifty-thousand-dollar payoff to the driver who murdered David Vance, and the falsified hospital death records for Clara Sterling."
Vance pulled a red-stamped federal arrest warrant from his leather folder, slapping it flat onto the table before her.
"Victoria Sterling, you are under arrest for first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, corporate fraud, and international money laundering. You do not have the right to bail, as you have repeatedly proven to be a severe flight risk."
Two female federal marshals stepped forward.
Victoria backed away, knocking her high-backed leather chair to the floor, her eyes wild with terror as she looked at the directors she had known for forty years. "George! Elizabeth! Tell them! Tell these thugs who I am! I am Victoria Sterling! My grandfather built the American railway system!"
The directors didn't look at her. They looked down at their tablets, their faces pale, silently moving their chairs away to avoid being associated with the disgraced matriarch.
The marshals grabbed Victoria’s frail, trembling arms, pulling them behind her back.
CLICK-CLACK.
The cold steel handcuffs snapped around her manicured wrists. The sound echoed through the boardroom like the closing of a tomb.
As the marshals turned her toward the double doors, Victoria’s eyes locked onto Ivy. The young girl stood tall beside Julian, calm, poised, and utterly devoid of fear.
"You..." Victoria spat, venom dripping from every syllable as tears of pure, impotent rage ruined her heavy makeup. "You are just like your mother. A worthless, sentimental gutter rat! You think you’ve won? You will choke on this fortune!"
Ivy didn't flinch. She took one step forward, looking directly into the eyes of the woman who had condemned her mother to twenty years of misery.
"My mother died with empty pockets, Victoria," Ivy said, her voice rich with an unshakeable, quiet dignity. "But she died surrounded by love, with her soul intact. You are leaving this room in handcuffs, surrounded by strangers who despise you, with nothing but your bitter hatred to keep you warm in a concrete cell. My mother won twenty years ago. You just finally found out."
Victoria let out a strangled, animalistic wail as the marshals hauled her through the double doors and down the executive hallway, where dozens of employees stood watching in stunned, breathless silence as the untouchable queen of Wall Street was marched into the elevator like a common criminal.
Julian turned his head toward the remaining board members. The room was dead silent.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian said, his voice returning to its familiar, commanding baritone. "Pursuant to the unsealed last will and testament of Charles Sterling, fifty-one percent of the controlling voting shares of Sterling Global are hereby vested in Miss Ivy Sterling. I will remain as Chief Executive Officer, and Miss Sterling will assume the role of Chairwoman of the Sterling Charitable Trust."
Julian rested his hand gently on Ivy's shoulder.
"The merger with the European bank is officially canceled. We will be redirecting three billion dollars of our capital reserves into clean industrial manufacturing and community housing funds in the upstate region where my sister lived."
Julian paused, his sharp slate-gray eyes sweeping the table.

"Any objections?"
Not a single director raised a hand. They all stood up in unison, bowing their heads in deep, reverent respect to the young woman who had walked into their world in a maid’s uniform and walked out with an empire.
