Chapter 3 - The Billionaire’s Directive

The phone call lasted less than twenty seconds.

Harold Bennett stood under the red canvas overhang of Slice & Save #409, the wind whipping his thin white hair around his weathered face. He pressed the phone to his ear, his watery blue eyes fixed on the illuminated sign above the door.

"Arthur," Harold spoke into the secure receiver, his voice dropping into a crisp, commanding baritone that bore zero resemblance to the frail, shivering beggar who had begged for food moments earlier.

"Mr. Bennett? My God, sir, your transponder signal went dark three hours ago! The entire corporate security detail is in full panic mode across three states—" a breathless, panicked voice answered instantly on the other end of the line. It was Arthur Sterling, Chief Executive Officer of Bennett Global Holdings, the multi-billion-dollar parent corporation controlling thousands of pizza franchises worldwide.

"Quiet down, Arthur, and listen to me very carefully," Harold interrupted smoothly, every single syllable landing like an iron hammer. "I am currently standing outside franchise location #409 in downtown Chicago."

A breathless pause hung on the line. "Franchise... #409? Sir, why are you out in the freezing cold? Where is your security detail?"

"I have been conducting an unannounced personal audit of our retail store standards," Harold replied coldly, watching through the plate-glass window as Donald Vance strutted triumphantly around the kitchen. "Specifically, I wanted to evaluate the moral character of our front-line management. And I found a profound, metastasizing rot."

"What kind of rot, sir?" Arthur asked, his tone instantly shifting into absolute, corporate anxiety.

"The regional manager of #409, a wretched little tyrant named Donald Vance, routinely berates staff, violates labor standards, and just fired a nineteen-year-old employee named Noah Brooks because the boy had the basic human decency to give a mistake pizza to a starving old man sitting on the curb."

A heavy silence settled over the satellite line.

"Terminate Donald Vance’s franchise lease effective immediately," Harold commanded, his voice ringing with absolute sovereignty. "Seize the property, initiate a complete forensic audit of his store’s financial records for wage theft, kickback schemes, and tax evasion, and have my personal legal counsel draw up an immediate, unconditioned educational endowment and executive mentorship portfolio for Noah Brooks."

"Consider it done, Mr. Bennett," Arthur replied instantly. "When would you like us to implement the transition?"

"Right now," Harold said, tapping the phone to end the call. "I want the regional director and a full legal team down here before the ovens cool down."
