Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Journey

Late that night, after the gala had ended and the ballroom had grown quiet, Ethan stood alone on the private stone balcony of his mother’s new home in Des Plaines.
The night air was cool and sweet, carrying the distant hum of traffic from the highway and the soft, peaceful rustle of leaves in the oak trees overhead.
The mortgage-free bungalow glowed softly with warm light from within. Inside, his mother was resting comfortably in her favorite armchair, reading a book without a single worry about medical bills or rent notices pressing down on her mind.
The heavy glass door clicked open, and Harrison Sterling stepped out onto the balcony, holding two cups of hot coffee.
The old billionaire handed one to Ethan, resting his hands on the stone railing, looking out at the quiet suburban street.
"Penny for your thoughts, Director Hayes," Harrison teased softly.
Ethan took a slow sip of the coffee, looking down at his hands—hands that had once been raw and tired from scrubbing floors, now holding the steering wheel of a global enterprise.
"I was just thinking about the old station at C12, Mr. Sterling," Ethan admitted quietly. "How fast everything changed because of one split-second decision."
Harrison smiled, his slate-gray eyes reflecting the starlight overhead.
"It wasn't a split-second decision, Ethan," Harrison said, resting his hand gently on the teenager’s shoulder. "It was years of character, built in the dark when nobody was watching, finally stepping out into the light."

Ethan nodded, feeling a profound, unshakeable peace settle deep within his chest.
The journey had been long, steep, and uncertain, but standing there beneath the open sky, he knew with absolute certainty that he was exactly where he was always meant to be.
