Chapter 5 - The Purge of the Boardroom

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Mercer Maritime Tower in downtown Boston was convened for an emergency plenary session of the international shareholders.
The twenty-four senior directors, institutional shipping partners, and maritime union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, breathless silence.
The morning front-page headlines of The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:
MERCER MARITIME DYNASTY COLLAPSES IN $90M FRAUD AND HOMICIDE RAID: DARIUS VALE RECLAIMS MOTHER'S LEGACY WITH HEIRESS MARA VANCE.
When the frosted glass double doors slid open, every single person at the table stood up in unison.
Darius Vale walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke navy three-piece suit, his posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.
Walking beside him, holding his arm with quiet, regal dignity, was Mara Vance.
I wore an exquisite, custom-tailored emerald-green silk dress, my dark hair swept back in a graceful twist, wearing my late grandfather’s gold signet ring on my right hand.
Following behind us were Arthur Ross, Agent Marcus Miller, and Alyssa Vance, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Zurich forensic ledgers.
Darius walked to the head of the table—the seat Julian Mercer had occupied for three decades. He pulled out the executive chair, gently seating me at his right hand, before taking his place at the center of the board.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Darius began, his deep baritone commanding absolute silence. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent dissolution of all corporate contracts, voting proxies, and management seats previously held by the Mercer and Sterling families."
The directors nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single director signing the emergency restructuring resolution without a single objection.
"Item two," Darius continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The ninety million dollars recovered from the offshore accounts has been fully transferred into the newly established Helena Vale Foundation for Maritime Safety and Labor Welfare."
The longshoremen union delegates and terminal directors stood up, the room erupting into spontaneous, standing applause that echoed off the glass walls overlooking Boston Harbor.
"And item three," Darius added, turning his gaze toward me with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Mara Vance is hereby confirmed as Chief Executive Officer of Vance-Vale Artisan Design & Maritime Estates, with full operational autonomy over all creative and commercial developments."

The entire boardroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
I looked at my sister, Alyssa, who was wiping a joyful tear from her cheek from the front row, feeling the dark shadows of six years of manipulation completely dissolve beneath the morning sun.
