Chapter 6 - The Cleansing of the Board

At 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the grand executive boardroom on the forty-second floor of the Vance-Carter Maritime Tower was convened for an emergency plenary session of the international shareholders.
The thirty-two senior division directors, regional fleet managers, and longshoremen labor union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.
The morning front-page headlines of The Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:
CARTER MERIDIAN HEIRESS CRUSHES $60M HOSTILE TAKEOVER: CEO DANIEL CARTER AND STERLING EXECUTIVES INDICTED FOR RACKETEERING AND FRAUD.
When the double frosted-glass doors slid open, every single executive in the room stood up in unison.
I walked into the boardroom, dressed in my tailored charcoal suit, my posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.
Walking beside me was Rachel Stein, followed by Chief Financial Auditor David Sterling and Marcus Thorne, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Zurich forensic ledgers.
I took my seat at the head of the table—the seat Daniel had occupied for seven years.
"Good morning, gentlemen," I began, my clear, resonant voice commanding absolute silence across the vast room. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of Daniel Carter as Chief Executive Officer, accompanied by the unconditional revocation of all voting proxies, executive compensation packages, and corporate stock options."
The directors nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single director signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.
"Item two," I continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The seven point eight million dollars siphoned from the employee pension fund has been fully recovered through the emergency federal seizure of Daniel Carter’s private offshore assets and the liquidation of his luxury real estate."
The labor union delegates and fleet managers stood up, the room erupting into spontaneous, standing applause that echoed off the glass walls overlooking Lake Michigan.
"And item three," I added, turning to David Sterling. "The corporate entity is officially reverting to its founding historical charter: The Vance Sovereign Maritime and Logistics Consortium. We are allocating twenty-five million dollars in permanent capital to establish the Vance Foundation for Women in Transportation and Supply Chain Leadership, providing executive training, legal defense, and independent startup capital for female entrepreneurs across North America."

The entire boardroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
I closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud. "The meeting is adjourned. Let's get our trucks back on the road."
