Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Circle

The sun dipped below the western skyline of Boston, setting the historic brick towers of the Back Bay ablaze with sweeping brushstrokes of amber, crimson, and deep, majestic violet.

Along Atlantic Avenue, the streetlamps flickered to life one by one, casting golden pools of light across the damp sidewalks where fifty years of history had been rewritten by a single act of uncalculated grace. The harbor water surged gently against the granite seawall, its rhythm steady, eternal, and peaceful.

On the sixty-seventh floor of the Vanguard Grand, Alistair Vanguard and his wife Martha stood by the panoramic window, holding hands, looking down through the twilight at the warm light spilling from the lobby entrance onto the street below.

They watched as Noah Parker walked through the revolving doors, wearing his simple navy blazer, walking beside his mother Mary, who was laughing as she held her son's arm, her steps strong, unhurried, and completely free of pain.

Alistair raised his cup of tea in a silent, grateful toast toward the open harbor where his journey had begun so long ago.

"The house is in good hands, Martha," Alistair whispered, his slate-gray eyes reflecting the rising stars above the Atlantic. "The foundation is solid."

"It always was, Alistair," Martha smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder. "It just needed a builder who knew how to share the bread."

Down on the avenue, the cool evening breeze off the water rustled the leaves of the newly planted oak trees along the waterfront, carrying the sweet scent of rain, salt spray, and the limitless promise of a tomorrow that would never, ever go dark again.

The storm had passed. The debt of honor was paid. And standing in the warm, golden light of the home they had built together, the circle was finally, perfectly unbroken.
