Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Shore

Two years later.
The summer sun set over the waters of Long Island Sound, painting the evening sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, amber, and molten gold.
On the wide stone terrace of the DeLuca estate, a warm breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming white jasmine and sea salt across the lawns. The sound of gentle laughter and Chopin’s nocturnes drifted through the open French doors of the drawing room.
Down on the emerald grass near the garden fountain, five-year-old Emma was running with joyful, fearless speed, tossing a bright red rubber ball across the lawn.
Beside her, Bruno—now eight years old, his muzzle touched with distinguished gray fur, but his stride still powerful and strong—raced after the ball, scooping it up with a happy shake of his head before trotting back to drop it proudly at Emma’s feet.
Sophia sat on a teakwood bench near the rose garden, reading a book, a look of complete, unburdened peace resting upon her face.
On the terrace above, Lorenzo stood with his arm wrapped securely around Isabella’s waist.
Isabella leaned her head against his shoulder, holding a glass of chilled sparkling water in her hand, watching the little girl and the black dog playing in the twilight. Her stomach was gently rounded beneath her flowing emerald silk sundress—five months pregnant with their first child, a baby boy whose heartbeat was strong, healthy, and safe.
Lorenzo placed his warm hand gently over her abdomen, feeling the faint, rhythmic flutter of new life beneath the silk.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" Isabella whispered, turning her face up to meet his gaze.
Lorenzo looked down into the radiant, unshadowed green eyes of his wife, then out across the open lawns where their real family was thriving in the golden light.
"I was thinking about the morning an angel in a yellow sweater walked into my study," Lorenzo murmured softly, leaning down to press his lips against her temple. "I thought I was the most powerful man in New York, and I had lost everything that mattered. She taught me that the only real power on this earth is the love that refuses to give up on the truth."
Isabella smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a slow, deep kiss that carried all the promises of an unbroken future.

From the lawn below, Emma’s cheerful laughter echoed across the water as Bruno let out a joyful, resonant bark that rose into the clear summer sky.
The grave in the cemetery was empty, the shadows of the past were gone forever, and the fortress they had reclaimed stood strong, open, and filled with a lifetime of peace.
