Chapter 7 - The Cleansing of the Estate

Within three weeks of Anthony Ricci’s federal indictment, the Manhattan townhouse and the Hudson Valley estate underwent a complete physical and spiritual rebirth.
The dark, museum-like gloom that had hung over the properties since Julian’s death was systematically eradicated.
Vincent hired a team of master restorers to completely remodel the third floor.
The heavy blackout curtains were removed, replaced by soaring architectural glass windows that let the golden morning sunlight flood across the polished walnut floors.
Julian’s music room was no longer a locked vault of grief; it was transformed into a sunlit conservatory filled with fresh white orchids, open bookshelves of sheet music, and a miniature children's easel where Sophie spent her afternoons painting while classical melodies played through the restored sound system.
Clara officially assumed the executive directorship of the Julian Marlo Foundation for Children’s Arts and Education—a sixty-million-dollar philanthropic endowment dedicated to providing free, world-class musical instruments, private tutoring, and collegiate scholarships for underprivileged children across New York City.
On a crisp, sunny Saturday morning in late spring, Vincent and Clara stood on the wide stone terrace of the Hudson Valley estate overlooking the river.
Down on the emerald green lawn near the rose garden, four-year-old Sophie was running with energetic, fearless speed, playing tag with Barnaby, a playful golden retriever puppy Vincent had adopted for her fourth birthday.
Sophie was laughing—a clear, musical, unburdened sound that carried across the water, her dark curls bouncing in the warm breeze, her yellow dress glowing in the sunlight.
Vincent walked over, resting his arm gently across the cedar balustrade beside Clara, holding two porcelain mugs of fresh roast coffee.
"How does it feel, Director Clara?" Vincent asked softly, a warm, tender smile touching his lips.
May you like
Clara looked out over the sparkling blue waters of the river where the white sailboats glided peacefully toward the open horizon under a cloudless sapphire sky.
"It feels like daylight, Vincent," Clara answered with a heart full of absolute, unbreakable peace. "Pure, sovereign daylight."
