Chapter 8 - The Cleansing of the Board

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the grand executive boardroom on the sixtieth floor of the Moretti Sovereign Maritime Tower overlooking New York Harbor was convened for an emergency plenary session of the international shipping trustees and labor union directors.

The thirty-two senior division directors, deepwater crane operators, and maritime union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.

The morning front-page headlines of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Star-Ledger lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:

MORETTI DYNASTY CRUSHES $140M CORPORATE CONSPIRACY: ALESSANDRO MORETTI AND FORENSIC AUDITOR ELENA VANCE RECLAIM ENTIRE EAST COAST MARITIME EMPIRE.

When the double frosted-glass doors swung open, every single executive in the room stood up in unison.

Alessandro Moretti walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, his posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.

Walking beside him, holding her head high with regal, sovereign dignity, was Elena Vance.

She wore her tailored navy suit with quiet, unyielding authority, wearing the restored gold signet compass of the Port Authority around her neck.

And seated in the center place of honor at the head of the table, looking radiant, dignified, and completely restored in an ivory silk dress and her silver medallion bracelet, was Donna Rosa Moretti.

Beside her, swinging her patent leather shoes and holding her plush fox, sat five-year-old Mia.

Following behind them were Arthur Ross, Detective Marcus Thorne, and Chief Financial Auditor David Sterling, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Grand Cayman forensic ledgers.

Alessandro walked to the head of the table—the seat his father and grandfather had occupied for six decades. He pulled out the master executive armchair, gently seating me at the center of the board, while placing Rosa and Mia at our right hand, before taking his place standing firmly beside us.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Alessandro began, his deep baritone cutting through the room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of all corporate contracts, voting proxies, and advisory seats previously allocated to Julian Sterling, Bianca Moretti, and Apex Harbor Logistics."

The directors and union leaders nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single man signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.

"Item two," Alessandro continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The eighty-five million dollars in maritime equity fraudulently encumbered under the Sterling contracts has been fully restored to the Thomas and Elena Vance Generational Maritime Trust."

The room erupted into spontaneous, standing applause.

"And item three," Alessandro added, turning his gaze toward me with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Elena Vance is hereby confirmed as Supreme Chief Executive Fiduciary and Head of Forensic Integrity of the unified Moretti-Vance Global Maritime Consortium, with absolute veto authority over all commercial, legal, and operational expansions."

I closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud.

"And furthermore," Alessandro announced, "the Mia Vance Foundation for Vulnerable Families and Child Protection is officially endowed with fifty million dollars in permanent capital, guaranteeing full university scholarships, emergency legal defense, and comprehensive housing security for the families of every dockworker, hotel cleaner, and domestic employee across the eastern seaboard."

The longshoremen union delegates and terminal directors rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.
