Three years later, the corporate restructuring of Pendelton-Northside Logistics was complete, hailed by business journals across the country as a masterclass in ethical capitalism and community-first enterprise.
At twenty-one, Ethan Miller was officially named President of the Northside Foundation, overseeing billions in philanthropic investments directed toward affordable housing, urban renewal, and educational grants for working-class families.
On a bright, crisp afternoon in October, Ethan stood on the newly revitalized Oakridge community plaza, watching children play in a sunlit splash pad where a crumbling parking lot used to be.
The brick row houses behind the square had been completely renovated, their fresh coats of paint gleaming in the autumn sun. Above the community center entrance, a gleaming bronze plaque caught the light:
THE OAKRIDGE TRUST – SECURED FOREVER.
Arthur Pendelton stood beside him, leaning slightly on his cane, wearing a sharp tweed jacket.
“You know, Ethan,” Arthur said quietly, squinting against the sun. “The board wants to name the new corporate tower downtown after you. The Miller Building. Has a nice ring to it.”
Ethan smiled, shaking his head. He looked down at the worn, duct-taped flip phone he still kept in his inner jacket pocket—a constant reminder of where he came from and who he owed.
