Chapter 6 - The Siege on the Cliff

The Atlantic wind howled against the granite cliffs as twelve private military contractors in sterile black assault gear crested the rocky southern embankment of the estate.
They moved with professional, lethal precision—low silhouettes, suppressed carbines at the high ready, thermal-imaging optics scanning the dark perimeter for sentries.
They believed they were raiding an abandoned estate occupied by a single businessman and an aging detective.
They did not know that the master of the property was an apex predator who had spent fifteen years mastering the tactical defense of maritime infrastructure.
At the edge of the stone terrace, concealed behind the heavy ornamental balustrade, Nathan Vance and Warrick Hollis waited in absolute stillness.
"Hostiles crossing the lower lawn," Warrick murmured into his throat mic. "Range seventy yards. Wind north-northwest at fifteen knots."
"Take out their communications first," Nathan commanded.
Warrick raised a specialized EMP pulse-rifle, aligning the holographic sight on the tactical relay antenna mounted to the lead contractor’s backpack.
He squeezed the trigger.
A silent, high-voltage electromagnetic wave detonated across the lawn.
Instantly, the contractors' night-vision goggles short-circuited into blinding green static, their encrypted radio links went dead, and the laser sights on their carbines extinguished in an instant.
"Ambush!" the lead mercenary shouted, ripping off his fried optical headset.
Before the team could establish a firing line, the estate's high-intensity coastal searchlights roared to life, bathing the entire four-acre lawn in twelve million lumens of blinding, diamond-white halogen light.
From the tree line along the northern perimeter, six armored SUVs from Vance Harbor Logistics surged onto the grass, their heavy engines roaring like thunder, deploying twelve tactical operators with carbines raised.
"Drop your weapons!" Detective Doyle’s voice boomed through the estate's high-decibel PA system. "You are surrounded by federal marshals and state police! Surrender immediately!"
Two contractors raised their carbines toward the terrace.
Nathan fired three controlled, suppressed double-taps from his custom SIG Sauer P320.
The three rounds struck the weapon receivers of both shooters, shattering the composite frames and knocking the weapons out of their hands before a single shot could be fired.
The remaining ten mercenaries dropped to their knees on the wet grass, throwing their weapons aside, raising their hands in total, paralyzed surrender as Nathan’s tactical security teams swarmed the lawn, securing their wrists in heavy steel zip-ties.
The lead contractor sat on the grass, looking up at Nathan Vance as the mob sovereign strode down the marble steps of the terrace in his dark suit, completely untouched by the rain.
"Who hired you?" Nathan asked, his voice quiet, flat, and lethal.
The contractor spat blood onto the grass, his eyes wide with cornered dread. "Prescott Lyle... he promised us two million dollars to torch the main house and eliminate the occupants before morning."

Nathan looked down at the broken mercenary with the vast, quiet indifference of a mountain.
"Tell your employer," Nathan said softly, "that his meeting with the board of directors has just been moved up to dawn."
