Chapter 7 - The Inheritance of Truth

Six months after the revelation, the formal transfer of the Rosewood-Vance trust was finalized in a quiet conference room in downtown Boston.

Victoria sat at the head of the mahogany table, alongside Marcus Holloway, the Rosewood family's longtime chief legal counsel who had quietly assisted Victoria in righting the historical wrong. Across the table sat Julian and Maya, representing Emily’s estate.

"The financial re-allocation is complete," Marcus announced, closing the thick leather-bound folio with a satisfying snap. "Half of the primary Rosewood holdings, along with the compounded interest of the original trust distribution from twenty years ago, have been successfully transferred to the Vance-Vance Educational and Humanitarian Foundation."

Maya gasped softly, her eyes widening as she looked at the figures on the summary sheet. "Dad... this is enough to fund the community center project for the entire county, plus university scholarships for dozens of kids."

"It's what your mother would have wanted," Julian said softly, squeezing his daughter's hand. He looked across the table at Victoria. "You didn't have to give up fifty percent of your personal stake, Victoria. The court only mandated the return of Emily’s original share."

"It wasn't a sacrifice, Julian," Victoria said, her voice steady and resolute. "It was restitution. For twenty years, I lived off money that should have been shared with my sister. Returning it doesn't clean the slate entirely, but it’s a start."

As they stepped out of the law offices into the bright Boston sunshine, Maya turned to Victoria with a bright, excited smile. "Aunt Victoria, we're having a small dinner at the cottage this Friday to celebrate the foundation's official launch. Dad is making his famous seafood stew, and I baked a triple-chocolate cake. You... you will come, right?"

Victoria felt a lump form in her throat. For her entire life, family gatherings had been rigid, stilted affairs held under the watchful eye of a tyrant, where love was conditional and conversation was measured in social currency.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world," Victoria smiled, pulling Maya into a warm, lingering embrace.
