Chapter 7 - The Unbroken Circle

The private dining room on the top floor of the Vance-Meridian Tower was reserved exclusively for the board of trustees, but today it held a much smaller, far more intimate gathering.

At the center of the polished walnut table sat Evelyn Vance, wearing an elegant emerald silk dress and her signature pearl necklace. To her left sat Caleb, and to her right sat his younger sister Chloe, who was visiting her brother’s new office for the very first time.

Chloe’s eyes were wide with awe as she looked out the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows at the magnificent view of the city.

"Caleb... this place is insane," Chloe whispered, clutching a warm cup of hot chocolate between her hands. "It looks like a movie set. Are you really running this department?"

Caleb laughed, passing her a plate of gourmet pastries. "I’m just helping out, Clo. Mrs. Vance and Arthur are the ones running the show."

"Call me Evelyn, dear," the elderly matriarch corrected gently, reaching across the table to pat Chloe’s hand. "And your brother is being far too modest. He has redesigned our entire philanthropic outreach program in ninety days. He has more vision in his little finger than half our regional vice presidents have in their entire bodies."

Chloe beamed with pride, looking at her older brother with an expression of deep, affectionate admiration. "He’s always been like that. Even when we had nothing, he made sure I had everything I needed."

Evelyn smiled, her pale blue eyes softening as she watched the two siblings. "That, my dear, is what we call an unshakeable foundation. No matter how high the building goes, it will never fall if the bedrock is made of love and sacrifice."

Arthur Vance, sitting near the end of the table, raised his coffee cup in a silent toast to the young man who had revitalized not just their corporate real estate holdings, but the very moral compass of their family legacy.
