Chapter 7 - The Web of Deception

Diego stared at Marisol, his mind racing backward through time, violently piecing together a puzzle that had been sabotaged from the very beginning.

“Marisol... listen to me,” Diego said, his voice urgent, reaching out a hand instinctively before dropping it back to his side. “When we were together five years ago, my father was dying. He opposed our relationship from day one because of your background. The week you disappeared—the week you came looking for me at my apartment—my father had me locked in a private medical facility in Monterrey under the pretense of treating my exhaustion.”

Marisol stopped crying. She stared at him, her breath hitching. “What... what are you saying?”

“I am saying that while I was locked away, my father’s personal assistant intercepted every single call, every message, and every visitor,” Diego said, his face turning a terrifying shade of pale as the horrifying truth crystallized in his mind. “When I was finally released two months later, I was told you had taken a severance check from my father’s office and vanished. They told me you didn't want to be found.”

Marisol felt the ground literally open up beneath her feet. All the resentment, all the hardened anger she had carried like armor for three long years, suddenly dissolved into a cold, paralyzing shock.

“Your father...” Marisol whispered, her voice barely a breath.

“He paid you off on paper to keep you away from our family name, while telling me you left willingly,” Diego finished, his hands clenching into tight fists at his sides. The veins in his neck strained against his collar. “He engineered every single second of it.”

Valentina looked up at the raised voices, sensing the emotional storm raging around her. She reached out her small hand and patted Diego’s knee gently, offering a silent comfort that completely broke the hardened businessman’s composure.

Diego closed his eyes, a single tear escaping down his cheek as he looked at his daughter—a daughter he had never known existed, living right beneath his roof, treated like an invisible ghost by the very people he had allowed into his life.

When he opened his eyes again, there was no grief left in them. Only cold, absolute vengeance.
