Chapter 8 - The Master’s Return

Upstairs, behind the heavy mahogany doors of the master suite, Paulina was pacing frantically across the plush carpet, pressing her phone to her ear.

“Dad, you need to fix this,” Paulina hissed into the receiver, her voice shaking with adrenaline. “Diego has completely lost his mind over some maid and her brat. He just humiliated me in front of the entire staff!”

On the other end of the line, her father—a powerful board member in several of Diego’s secondary corporations—spoke with measured calm. “Calm down, Paulina. Diego is a businessman. He’s emotional right now, but he’s not going to throw away a strategic alliance with our family over household staff. Just give him space until this evening. He’ll come around.”

“He won’t!” Paulina snapped. “You don’t understand the look in his eyes. It wasn't just anger... it was something else.”

Before her father could reply, the heavy bedroom door swung open without a knock.

Paulina gasped, dropping her phone onto the bed.

Diego stood in the doorway. He didn't look like an emotional, erratic man. He looked like the apex predator of the Mexican corporate world—cold, terrifyingly calm, and moving with absolute, lethal precision.

Behind him stood two corporate security guards and his primary legal counsel, holding a thick leather briefcase.

“Diego... what is the meaning of this?” Paulina asked, her voice trembling despite her best efforts to maintain her dignity.

Diego stepped into the room, his eyes fixed on her with utter disdain.

“You called your father,” Diego stated flatly.

“I—what? No, I was just—”

“Save your breath, Paulina,” Diego interrupted, gesturing to his lawyer. “Open the briefcase.”

The attorney stepped forward, flipping open the leather case and pulling out a single document, laying it flat across the glass-topped vanity table.

“This is an immediate revocation of the engagement contract,” Diego said, his voice echoing off the walls. “Furthermore, your father’s corporate shares in Villaseñor Logistics are being officially recalled due to verified insider trading violations uncovered by my audit team this morning.”

Paulina staggered backward, hitting the edge of the king-sized bed. “You can’t do that! My family made you! We built your empire!”

“Your family tried to control me by destroying my life,” Diego corrected coldly. “And now, you are going to pack every single one of your designer bags, leave your engagement ring on this table, and walk out of my house before I have you physically removed by federal marshals.”

“Diego, please!” Paulina shrieked, all her arrogance melting into desperate terror. “You can’t throw me out for a maid! You love me!”

“I never loved you, Paulina,” Diego said, his voice entirely devoid of pity. “I was simply a man going through the motions of a life built on lies. But today, the lies end.”
