Chapter 6 - The Digital Siege

For the next thirty-six hours, the safehouse turned into a war room fueled by adrenaline, cold pizza, and gallons of dark roast coffee.
Hannah sat at the center of it all, her fingers flying across a multi-monitor setup while Dante stood behind her like a sentinel, directing his tech operatives and coordinating safehouse defenses across the city. Pickles had appointed himself supervisor, sleeping soundly on Dante’s designer coat draped over a spare chair.
"We're hitting his primary Swiss accounts," Hannah muttered, her eyes glued to the cascading streams of financial data. "Kearney is routing funds through three shell companies in the Caymans. If I intercept the transfer protocol and inject a reverse-audit script..."
"Do it," Dante murmured, leaning over her shoulder. His chest brushed her back, and Hannah’s breath hitched, her focus momentarily shattering as she became hyper-aware of the solid, warm weight of him.
She forced her eyes back to the screen. *Click.*
Across the global banking network, Victor Kearney’s illicit financial empire began to hemorrhage. Millions, then tens of millions, then hundreds of millions of dollars were frozen, rerouted into dormant accounts controlled by a federal oversight trust that Dante’s legal team had secretly established.
At the same time, massive data dumps containing decrypted bank statements, audio recordings of bribes, and land-deed fraud were automatically transmitted to the FBI’s organized crime division, the SEC, and every major news outlet in Chicago.
"It's done," Hannah whispered, leaning back in her chair with a shuddering sigh of relief. "Kearney is blind, broke, and exposed."
Suddenly, the safehouse alarms shrieked. Red emergency lights bathed the room in a bloody glow.
Evan slammed his fists onto his control console. "Boss! We've got incoming! Kearney’s hit squad tracked our network ping! They’re breaching the perimeter!"
Dante didn't panic. His voice cut through the blaring alarms like steel. "Evan, secure the back exits. Get the tech team out through the drainage tunnel. Hannah, grab the ledger."
Hannah grabbed Arthur’s worn ledger and shoved it into her backpack. But before she could stand, the heavy steel reinforced door of the safehouse exploded inward with a deafening blast.
Smoke filled the room. Through the haze, heavy footsteps thundered into the warehouse, led by a scarred, ruthless enforcer named Marcus—Kearney’s right-hand man.

"Well, well, well," Marcus sneered, raising a silenced submachine gun. "Looks like the little bookkeeper and her pet mobster ran out of road."
