Chapter 6 - The New Foundation

The months that followed brought a profound, beautiful transformation to the Sterling estate.

Without the cold, critical presence of Victoria Vance casting a shadow over the halls, the mansion truly felt like a home. The staff—who had quietly despised Victoria’s cruel snobbery—thrived under a new atmosphere of mutual respect and genuine warmth.

Julian didn't hide Elena away, nor did he treat her like a secret shame. When her pregnancy began to show visibly, he quietly moved her from the staff quarters into the east wing guest suite, providing her with top-tier prenatal care, private tutors to finish her college education, and the unyielding, absolute protection of his name.

Society gossips whispered and speculated for weeks, but none of them dared cross the gates of the estate or question Julian Sterling, whose corporate power and ruthless elimination of Victoria’s family had proven that crossing him was social and financial suicide.

On a bright, crisp Saturday morning in late October, Julian and Elena were out in the private estate gardens walking slowly along the gravel pathway lined with blooming chrysanthemums.

The autumn air smelled of damp earth, fallen leaves, and sweet orchard fruit.

Elena wore a soft cream-colored maternity dress, her hand resting gently on her pronounced belly, a radiant, healthy glow gracing her youthful features.

“Julian,” Elena murmured softly, looking up at him as a cool breeze rustled the maple trees overhead. “Sometimes… sometimes I still feel like I’m going to wake up and realize this was all a dream. That I’m still just a maid hiding in the kitchens.”

Julian stopped walking. He turned to face her, taking both of her soft hands in his large, calloused palms, his slate-gray eyes softening into an expression of profound, unconditional devotion.

“You were never just a maid, Elena,” Julian said, his voice deep, steady, and absolute. “You were the only honest soul in a house built on glass. And this home belongs to you just as much as it belongs to me.”

Elena smiled, a bright, tearful smile that reached all the way to her eyes, and stepped into his embrace, resting her head against his chest as the autumn sun warmed the world around them.
