Chapter 5 - Whispers in High Society

“I am not going anywhere with you!” I snarled, holding my ground despite the trembling in my knees. “This is my home! She is my child! You have no legal rights here!”

Adrian looked down at me, his gaze impenetrable. “If you force me to make this legal, Clara, you will lose. By sunrise tomorrow, my attorneys can have an emergency custody order signed by the state supreme court. They will cite structural safety hazards, substandard living conditions, and medical negligence regarding her severe allergy.”

“Medical negligence? I saved her life every single day!”

“One month,” I choked out, swallowing my pride like broken glass. “Until I secure a new apartment. And we keep separate rooms. You do not touch me. You do not interfere with my parenting.”

Adrian bowed his head slightly. “Agreed.”
