Chapter 10 - The Sanctuary of Us

The rain fell in a soft, gentle rhythm against the stained-glass windows of St. Maren’s Parish, casting warm pools of ruby and sapphire light across the wooden pews.
There were no two hundred formal guests this time. No corporate spies, no rehearsed scripts, no hidden agendas.
Just the people who truly mattered: my mother smiling through her happy tears in the front pew, little Lily scattering real yellow garden roses—my grandmother’s roses—across the aisle, and Father Nolan standing at the altar with a wide, gentle smile on his face.
I wore the emerald-green silk dress from our first night at the cliffside estate, simple, bold, and entirely myself.
When Adrian stood before me at the altar, wearing a classic dark suit, his dark eyes reflected the flickering candlelight and the quiet, unshakable peace of a war finally won. He didn't look like the feared kingpin of Buffalo anymore; he looked like a man who had finally found his home.
"Molly," Father Nolan began, his voice warm and steady in the quiet church, "do you take this man, Adrian, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to walk beside him through every shadow, and to share in every triumph?"
I looked up into Adrian’s eyes, remembering the boy by the coat racks fifteen years ago, the man who watched over me from the shadows, and the partner who stood beside me when the world tried to break us.
"I do," I whispered, my voice clear and unwavering.
And when Adrian slipped the emerald band onto my finger, and leaned down to kiss me—not with theatrical performance, but with a deep, fierce, enduring devotion—the old stone church seemed to sigh with relief.

We walked back up the aisle together, hand in hand, stepping out through the heavy wooden doors into the bright, open afternoon air of Buffalo. The city stretched out before us, vast and full of promise, but as I looked up at the man by my side, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:
I was safe. I was chosen. And I was finally home.
