Chapter 9 - The Bianca Kane Pavilion

Six months later, on a radiant, sun-drenched morning in late spring, the grand opening of the newly constructed Bianca & Lily Kane Maternal Wellness and Pediatric Center was celebrated on the waterfront in Brooklyn.
The historic five-story limestone and glass medical pavilion—funded by the liquidated assets seized from the Valenti syndicate and Vivienne’s revoked trusts—was now home to the most advanced public maternal health clinic, pediatric neonatal unit, and women’s legal defense center in North America.
Hundreds of healthcare workers, working-class mothers from Queens, maritime union engineers, and community leaders gathered on the wide public plaza overlooking New York Harbor to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
In the center of the park stood a magnificent life-sized bronze sculpture of a mother holding an infant toward the morning sun, her shorn head depicted with delicate, regal beauty, wearing an open crown of blooming wild lilies.
Beside the statue, a polished granite plaque was inscribed with gold lettering:
THE SOVEREIGN DIGNITY“An empire is not measured by the bloodlines it hoards or the fear it commands, but by the sanctuary it builds to protect the innocent, and the unbroken courage of a mother who refuses to bend before cruelty.”Dedicated to Bianca Kane and Lily Kane.
Roman and I stood on the outdoor stage holding hands.
My dark hair had grown back into a chic, elegant chin-length bob that framed my face with soft waves. I wore an exquisite, tailored dress of ivory French linen, looking radiant, healthy, and full of sovereign grace.
Resting securely in a custom silk carrier against Roman’s broad chest was six-month-old Lily, wearing a pretty yellow dress and miniature white leather shoes, her large, curious brown eyes watching the cheering crowd with calm delight.
Roman stepped up to the microphone, his deep baritone carrying clear and steady across the plaza:
"For years, my family believed that power was maintained through fear, isolation, and the cold calculation of blood treaties," Roman addressed the crowd. "We were wrong. True power is found only in the dignity of an honest heart, the courage to stand beside the woman you love against every storm, and the sacred promise to build a world where our daughters can run in the light. Today, we dedicate this sanctuary forever to our mothers and children, and to the truth that justice and love will always conquer the dark."

The crowd erupted into thunderous, standing applause as I stepped forward and cut the ceremonial red ribbon with a single, joyful snip.
Ship horns roared across New York Harbor, fireboats shot towering arcs of water into the cloudless blue sky, and thousands of voices rose in a united cheer that shook the very foundations of the docks.
