Chapter 7 - The Final Confrontation

"Don't you dare touch my son!" I screamed, spinning away from the guards and backing up against the heavy mahogany bookshelves.

"Grab her!" Neil yelled, panic overriding his confusion as he lunged forward to help the guards pin my arms. "Clara, stop fighting! You're making it worse!"

The two bulky security guards caught me by the shoulders, wrenching my arms back with brutal force, attempting to pry Toby from my grip. Toby let out a terrified, bloodcurdling shriek, crying hysterically as the strange men manhandled us in the dim room.

"Hold her still! Give me the child!" Eleanor demanded, marching around the desk, her manicured nails clawing toward my baby.

"I wouldn't take another step if I were you, Eleanor," a deep, authoritative voice boomed from the doorway.

The heavy mahogany door didn't just open—it shattered inward with a deafening bang as the brass deadbolt was blown apart by a heavy boot kick.

Every head in the study snapped toward the entrance.

Stepping into the dim room wasn't a family counselor. It was Captain Thomas Reed of the State Police Major Crimes Division, flanked by six armed state troopers in full tactical gear, their assault rifles raised and laser sights painting red dots across the chests of the two security guards and Neil.

Behind the tactical team walked my brother, Mark—a senior federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice—wearing an impeccably tailored charcoal suit and a chilling, lethal smile.

"Drop the woman and step away from the child," Captain Reed bellowed, his voice echoing with absolute, terrifying authority. "State Police! Nobody move an inch or you will be perforated!"

The two security guards froze instantly, their hands flying into the air as they released my arms, stumbling backward until their backs hit the wall.

Neil staggered back, his face turning the color of chalk, staring at the armed troopers as if he were having a nightmare. "Captain... there's been a mistake! This is a private family dispute! My wife is unstable—"

"Shut your mouth, Neil," my brother Mark commanded, stepping past the tactical wall of troopers. Mark walked straight up to Neil, pulled out a thick federal arrest warrant, and shoved it hard against Neil’s chest. "You’re under arrest for conspiracy to commit child endangerment, filing fraudulent court documents, and accessory to corporate-funded poisoning."

Neil stared down at the warrant, his knees buckling beneath him. "Poisoning? What are you talking about? I didn't do anything!"

"You signed off on the shipping manifests for imported industrial chemical solvents disguised as infant formula," Mark said, his voice dripping with venom. "We raided the distributor warehouse in Boston forty-five minutes ago. We have the paper trail linking your corporate credit card directly to the purchase order, and we have your mother’s wire transfers."

Eleanor collapsed back into her leather desk chair, her hands trembling violently, her aristocratic composure completely incinerated. "That... that's impossible. We used offshore accounts..."

"Offshore accounts tracked by the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force," my brother countered smoothly, gesturing to the state troopers. "Arrest them both."
