Chapter 10 - The Horizon of a New Dawn

Two years later, the sun rose over the eastern horizon of Long Island, casting a brilliant, golden glow across the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

On the wrap-around teak deck of a private beachfront estate in the Hamptons—a home purchased entirely through her own independent equity and corporate earnings—Grace Bennett stood holding a porcelain mug of steaming black coffee.

She wore a simple white linen shirt and sunglasses, watching the white gulls wheel gracefully across the morning sky.

The wind ruffled her dark hair, but she didn't bother to tuck it back. She simply breathed in the clean, salt-scented air, feeling the absolute peace of a morning earned through resilience, intelligence, and unwavering strength.

Inside the house, her phone buzzed softly on the kitchen island.

She walked inside, setting her coffee mug down on the marble countertop—the same kind of marble as the conference table where her old life had ended two years ago, but this time, the space belonged entirely to her.

She picked up the phone.

It was an email notification from Martin Hale’s law firm, containing the quarterly financial audit for Bennett & Associates Corporate Holdings.

*Net revenue up 34%. Atlantic City expansion fully approved by municipal zoning boards. International hotel partnerships expanding into London and Tokyo.*

Grace smiled. Not a cold, razor-thin smile, but a warm, genuine expression of contentment.

She swiped the notification away, locked her phone, and walked back out onto the deck.

Far out in the distance, a commercial jet soared high above the ocean, climbing steadily into the limitless blue sky, bound for destinations unknown across the globe. Grace watched it for a moment, then turned her gaze back toward the horizon, where the sun continued to rise, bright, warm, and entirely unburdened by the past.
