Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Gala

Two years after the trial, the grand ballroom of the Bennett Memorial Harbor Resort was illuminated by the warm, golden glow of one thousand beeswax candles, towering displays of white calla lilies, and the genuine laughter of honest people.
It was the Inaugural Gala of the Cross & Bennett Hospitality Alliance.
The room was filled with six hundred guests: room attendants in tailored evening wear, chief engineers, line cooks, harbor pilots, ship captains, and community leaders who formed the true heart of the hotel empire.
The air was alive with the mouth-watering aromas of roasted prime rib, artisanal pastries, and vintage wines, accompanied by a magnificent twenty-piece orchestra playing from the raised mezzanine.
At eight o'clock precisely, the orchestra concluded its piece, and the room fell into a warm, respectful silence as Nathaniel Cross and Carol Bennett walked onto the raised mahogany stage in the center of the ballroom.
Nathaniel wore an exquisite, custom-tailored midnight-blue three-piece tuxedo, looking commanding, formidable, and completely at peace. Beside him, Carol was breathtaking in an emerald-green silk evening gown, her dark hair falling in lustrous waves over her shoulders, wearing a delicate gold compass pendant resting against her collarbone.
Nathaniel adjusted the microphone, looking out over the vast assembly, his deep, resonant baritone carrying cleanly across the silent hall:
"Two years ago, outside a chapel on my estate, a three-year-old child pulled on my sleeve and spoke a truth that powerful people wanted to bury in the dark," Nathaniel began, his arm wrapping gently and securely around Carol’s waist. "She reminded me that a house is not built of stone, crystal chandeliers, or balance sheets. A house is built of the sacred promise that the people inside it are safe, valued, and protected."
The crowd listened in rapt, breathless silence.
"Tonight, we declare that Cross Hospitality belongs to truth, to honor, and to the working hands that build our sanctuaries every single day," Nathaniel continued, looking down at Ivy, who sat in the front row holding Rebecca’s hand. "We declare that no arrogance, no money, and no conspiracy will ever silence the voice of the innocent in this family."
The entire ballroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.

Six hundred workers and their families rose to their feet, raising their crystal glasses in a joyful, roaring toast that echoed through the high-vaulted ceilings like music.
Marcus Bennett and Rebecca Cross raised their glasses in the front row, cheering and wiping joyful tears from their eyes, as the orchestra launched into a triumphant waltz that filled the night with light, beauty, and eternal sovereignty.
