Chapter 6 - The Purge of the Port Syndicate

By 9:00 AM, the extraordinary plenary assembly of the Great Lakes Maritime Council was convened under emergency federal guard at the Dirksen Federal Building in downtown Chicago.

The grand thirty-seat boardroom was packed with the twelve members of the board of directors, six high-priced corporate defense attorneys, and the senior captains who commanded the commercial transport districts of Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan.

Assistant United States Attorney Marcus Reed and Special Agent Raymond Callahan sat at the head of the long oak table alongside Vincent Callahan and me.

Frank Callahan slammed three thick certified probate and criminal decrees onto the center of the table with a concussive thud.

"Under emergency judicial orders executed by Chief District Judge Evelyn Montgomery at 6:00 AM today," Frank announced, his voice cutting through the silent hall like a broadsword, "Adrien Vale and Marcus Vance have been formally indicted for Federal Interstate Racketeering, Arms Trafficking, Corporate Extortion, and Grand Larceny exceeding eighty million dollars."

Frank connected his tablet to the seventy-foot digital display wall.

The massive screens illuminated instantly in four-K clarity, playing Adrien Vale's unedited video confession, the digital audit of the cloned keycard, and the audio recording captured by eight-year-old Molly.

The boardroom erupted into furious, panicked shouts. Directors shoved their chairs back in open horror, glaring across the table at the empty seats where Adrien and Marcus had once sat.

Vincent raised a single hand.

The room fell into an immediate, absolute silence.

Vincent leaned forward, his voice deep, resonant, and carrying the unshakeable weight of absolute authority.

"The Great Lakes Maritime Consortium is no longer operated under backroom alliances and shadow networks," Vincent declared. "As of this morning, fifty-one percent of all voting shares have been consolidated into The Callahan-Reed Sovereign Maritime Trust, with Hannah Reed serving as Executive Trustee and Director of Internal Compliance."

The directors looked at me—the woman who had worn a housekeeping uniform twenty-four hours earlier—now sitting at the right hand of the most powerful man in the Midwest.

Every director at the table stood to their feet, bowing their heads in profound, unanimous respect.

"We ratify the sovereign charter, Mr. Callahan," the senior board member announced. "Unconditionally."
