Chapter 5 - The Purge of the Commission

At 8:30 a.m. on Monday, the grand executive boardroom on the sixtieth floor of the Ashford Maritime Tower overlooking New York Harbor was convened for an emergency plenary session of the Five Families Commission and the Port Authority Board of Directors.

The forty-two senior caporegimes, commercial shipping magnates, and maritime labor union delegates sat around the eighty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.

The morning front-page headlines of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Chicago Tribune lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:

SENATOR PORTER ARRESTED IN $85M MARITIME ASSASSINATION CONSPIRACY: DANIEL ASHFORD AND MARCHETTI HEIRESS UNIFY NEW YORK HARBOR.

When the double frosted-glass doors swung open, every single man in the room stood up in unison.

Daniel Ashford walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, radiating total, uncontested dominance.

Walking beside him, holding his arm with quiet, sovereign grace, was Emily Marchetti.

I wore an exquisite, custom-tailored dark navy three-piece wool suit with gold buttons, my posture upright, commanding, and absolute.

Following behind us were Arthur Ross, Marco, and Vincent Marchetti—my father—who had arrived from Rome on a private supersonic transport at dawn.

Vincent Marchetti was sixty-six years old, silver-haired, impeccably tailored, carrying a gold-headed walking stick, his dark eyes burning with the unshakeable pride of a patriarch whose house had just been fully redeemed.

Daniel walked to the head of the table. He pulled out the master executive armchair, gently seating me at the center of the board, before taking his place standing firmly at my right hand, while my father took his seat on my left.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Daniel began, his deep baritone cutting through the room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of all commercial contracts, logistics leases, and maritime concessions previously allocated to the Porter syndicate and their offshore shell entities."

The directors and captains nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single man signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.

"Item two," Daniel continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The eighty-five million dollars in maritime assets fraudulently encumbered under the Panama shell agreements has been fully restored to the Ashford-Marchetti Sovereign Trust."

The room erupted into spontaneous, standing applause.

"And item three," Daniel added, turning his gaze toward me with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Emily Marchetti is hereby confirmed as Supreme Fiduciary Trustee and Co-Chairwoman of the unified Ashford-Marchetti Global Shipping Consortium, with absolute veto authority over all commercial, legal, and strategic operations."

The entire boardroom rose to its feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.

I closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud. "The meeting is adjourned. Let's get our ships back on the water."
