Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Dedication

Two years after the trial, on a radiant, sun-drenched Saturday morning in late June, the private coastal bluff overlooking Puget Sound at the Mercer Estate in Bainbridge Island was illuminated by the warm, golden glow of one thousand beeswax candles, towering displays of white calla lilies, blooming gardenias, and the genuine laughter of honest people.

It was our summer celebration and the twenty-first birthday party of Emma Collins Mercer.

The grand seaside terrace of the estate was filled with six hundred guests: commercial pilots in dress uniforms, flight attendants from across the country, baggage handlers from Terminal Two in tailored suits, federal judges, trauma surgeons from Harborview, and community scholarship students who formed the true heart of our restored alliance.

The air was alive with the mouth-watering aromas of roasted prime rib, artisanal sourdough pastries, and vintage wines, accompanied by a magnificent twenty-piece acoustic orchestra playing from the raised stone rotunda.

In the center of the expansive lawn overlooking the sound stood the newly completed Rachel Collins Aviation and Human Rights Institute—a forty-acre advanced technical pavilion providing free flight training, aeronautical engineering apprenticeships, and emergency legal defense for independent transportation workers and their children.

Emma stood on the wide stone terrace wearing an elegant cream linen suit with an ivory silk blouse, her dark hair swept back into an architectural chignon, holding a crystal flute of sparkling cider.

Arthur Ross walked up the terrace steps beside her, holding an unsealed leather portfolio bearing the master corporate charters of the Meridian-Collins Global Trust.

"A magnificent harvest, Emma," Arthur smiled, clinking his glass against hers. "The employee cooperative cleared record quarterly safety and operational ratings this morning, the student scholarship fund has already represented over two thousand families pro bono, and the Sterling name has completely disappeared from the commercial registries of this state."

"It is a true home, Arthur," Emma replied softly, looking out over the deep blue waters of the sound. "Built on the truth."

Grant Mercer walked onto the terrace wearing an elegant dark charcoal suit, his dark hair threaded with silver at the temples, his face radiating boundless, unshakeable peace.

He looked at Emma, his eyes warm with the eternal legacy of their house.

"How does the Supreme Chief Fiduciary feel today, Emma?" Grant asked softly.

May you like

Emma looked out over the sparkling waters of the sound, feeling the calm, steady rhythm of her heart in her chest, completely whole, completely sovereign, and completely free.

"She feels at peace, Dad," Emma answered, resting her hand over his on the stone balustrade. "We are finally, truly home."
