Chapter 3 - The Blueprint of Erasure

The sprawling collection of documents continued to spill across the Italian marble, revealing a depth of calculated malice that left the few brave guests peering from the drawing-room doors completely paralyzed.

Dante didn't look at the onlookers. His entire universe had narrowed down to the woman standing before him, shaking in her red designer heels.

Mrs. Gable turned the final pages of the auction inventory, her gloved finger tracing the line of financial allocations typed at the very bottom of the asset liquidation sheet.

"Mr. Moretti," the housekeeper said, her voice dropping into a harsh register. "There is one final document attached to the back of the auction manifest. It details the destination of the funds."

Dante stepped forward, snatching the paper from the ledger.

He read the typed lines, his chest heaving with silent, volcanic rage.

Projected Auction Yield: $1,450,000.

Allocation 1: Master suite structural demolition and modern minimalist refitting.

Allocation 2: Full financial underwriting for the expansion of the Vance family country estate in Lake Geneva, including the construction of a private equestrian wing for Marcus Vance.

Marcus Vance. Vivienne’s brother—a professional gambler and social parasite who had been quietly sniffing around the Moretti shipping docks for months, looking for backdoor contracts.

Vivienne hadn't just planned to erase Elena from the mansion; she had planned to finance her entire extended family's luxury lifestyle by liquidating a dead woman's legacy, selling off her personal memories to the highest bidder in Geneva while forcing a five-year-old orphan to sleep in the utility cellar.

Dante looked up from the paper.

The silence in the foyer was heavy enough to crush bone.

"Dante..." Vivienne whimpered, her voice cracking into a pathetic, high-pitched whine as she slid down the console table until she was half-crouched on the floor. "D-Dante, listen to me... it’s not what it looks like! I was... I was only trying to modernize! The house is stuck in the past! And my family... my family just needed a little bridge loan! It's business! High society requires capital restructuring!"

Dante didn't answer immediately. He walked toward her.

Each step he took sounded like a hammer driving a nail into a coffin. The guests peeking out from the drawing-room doors visibly recoiled, pressing themselves against the walls to escape his path.

He stopped inches from Vivienne. She shrank back, her shoulders pressed flat against the polished wood of the console.

"You weren't modernizing a house, Vivienne," Dante said, his voice dropping into that terrifying, velvet register that had silenced cartel bosses and state prosecutors alike.

He reached out, his massive fingers wrapping gently around the cold metal of the diamond necklace resting against her throat. With a slow, deliberate tug, he unclasped the heirloom, lifting it away from her skin and placing it carefully into his breast pocket.

Then, he reached down and grabbed the massive, four-carat platinum engagement ring resting on Vivienne’s left ring finger. With a sharp tug, he ripped it free, cutting her skin slightly and drawing a thin bead of blood.

Vivienne gasped, clutching her bleeding finger to her chest. "My ring! You can't—that's a symbol of our contract!"

Dante didn't care. He took the platinum ring, walked over to the velvet settee where Mia sat wrapped in her protective blanket, and picked up the delicate silver chain that had bound his daughter's ankle earlier that evening.

With surgical precision, Dante threaded the diamond engagement ring onto the silver chain, wrapping the metal securely around his knuckles like a makeshift brass knuckle.

He walked back to Vivienne, towering over her as she cowered on the floor.

"You moved into my wife's room before becoming my wife," Dante whispered, his face inches from hers, his slate-gray eyes burning with an ancient, unyielding resolve.

He straightened up, his posture commanding, sovereign, and entirely terrifying.

"Now you'll leave before becoming anything."
