Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Light

Two years after the day eight-year-old Leo walked across the wedding reception floor with a faded photograph in his hands, the estate on Blackwood Point was alive with the vibrant, joyful sounds of a real family home.

It was a brilliant summer evening in late August. The sun dipped slowly toward the western horizon, painting the sky and the Atlantic waves in breathtaking strokes of amber, violet, and molten gold.

A long cedar dining table was set upon the wide stone terrace overlooking the ocean, decorated with fresh hydrangeas, bowls of fresh local seafood, and warm sourdough bread.

Maura sat at the head of the table, looking radiant, strong, and completely healed, laughing as Arthur Vance recounted old courtroom stories to the gathered guests.

Down on the emerald lawn, ten-year-old Leo was running with energetic, fearless speed, playing catch with Julian and Barnaby, their cheerful shouts and the dog's joyful barks echoing across the quiet cove.

Laura stood by the stone balustrade, holding a glass of chilled sparkling water, watching her family with a heart full of absolute, unbreakable peace.

She reached into her pocket, pulling out the vintage photograph that had started it all—the image of two young blonde sisters smiling by the fountain, with the faded cursive on the back: Jack, Maura.

The photograph was no longer a symbol of grief, fear, or a stolen life.

It was a monument to the courage of a mother who had survived the dark, a sister who had chosen the truth, and a family that had fought through the fire to reclaim its sovereign soul.

Maura walked over, wrapping her arm securely around Laura's waist, resting her head against her sister's shoulder as the cool ocean breeze rustled their hair.

"Look at the horizon, Laura," Maura whispered softly, looking out across the sparkling blue water.

"It's wide open, Maura," Laura replied, smiling through tears of pure, unburdened happiness. "And it belongs to us."

From the lawn below, Leo came sprinting up the terrace steps, out of breath and beaming with joy, throwing his arms around both of them in a fierce, loving embrace.

The nightmare was gone forever, the ghosts of the past were laid to rest, and the sanctuary they had built stood strong, open, and filled with a lifetime of truth, honor, and unbroken peace.
