Chapter 5 - The Purge of the Board

At 2:00 p.m. on Friday, the grand executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Moretti Sovereign Maritime Tower overlooking New York Harbor was convened for an emergency plenary session of the international shareholders and terminal directors.

The thirty-two senior division directors, deepwater crane operators, and maritime labor union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.

The morning front-page headlines of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Financial Times lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:

MORETTI MARITIME HEIRESS CRUSHES $180M TAKEOVER PLOT: CEO ALESSANDRO MORETTI AND MAID EXPOSE DECADE-LONG CHEMICAL ASSASSINATION SCHEME.

When the double frosted-glass doors swung open, every single executive in the room stood up in unison.

Alessandro Moretti walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, his posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.

Walking beside him, holding her head high with regal, sovereign dignity, was Elena Vance.

And holding her mother’s right hand, wearing her yellow sweater over her pink leggings, was five-year-old Emma.

Following behind us were Arthur Ross, Enzo, and Chief Financial Auditor David Sterling, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Zurich forensic ledgers.

Alessandro walked to the head of the table—the seat his father and grandfather had occupied for six decades. He pulled out the master executive armchair, gently seating me at the center of the board, while placing Emma securely in my lap, before taking his place standing firmly beside us.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen," Alessandro began, his deep baritone cutting through the room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of all corporate contracts, voting proxies, and advisory seats previously allocated to Richard Vance and Apex Terminal Holdings."

The directors and union leaders nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single man signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.

"Item two," Alessandro continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The forty-five million dollars fraudulently encumbered under the Zurich escrow accounts has been fully recovered through the emergency federal seizure of the Vance estate."

The room erupted into spontaneous, standing applause.

"And item three," Alessandro added, turning his gaze toward Emma with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "The Emma Vance Foundation for Pediatric Pulmonary Health and Domestic Worker Justice is officially endowed with fifty million dollars in permanent capital, providing free respiratory medication, emergency legal defense, and university scholarships for the children of every dockworker and service employee across the East Coast."

The longshoremen union delegates and terminal directors rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.

I closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud. "The meeting is adjourned. Let's get our ships back on the water."
