Chapter 6 - The Council at Pier 42

At noon that day, an extraordinary plenary assembly of the New York and New Jersey Maritime Syndicate was convened inside the high-security executive boardroom at Pier 42 in Brooklyn.
Over eighty caporegimes, union presidents, and senior port directors sat around the forty-foot obsidian conference table under armed federal and private guard.
In the center of the room, tied to a reinforced steel chair with heavy transport chains, sat Vittorio Serra. His face was bruised, his designer suit torn and filthy, his arrogant demeanor completely disintegrated into the shivering terror of a traitor who had run out of ground.
Aleandro Moretti stood at the head of the table, dressed in an impeccably tailored charcoal three-piece suit beneath a heavy black wool overcoat, his presence commanding immediate, suffocating silence across the entire hall.
Standing at his right hand was Marco DeLuca; to his left stood Assistant United States Attorney Marcus Reed and Special Agent Raymond Callahan of the FBI’s Organized Crime Strike Force.
Frank Callahan, Aleandro’s chief trial counsel, slammed three thick volumes of certified federal indictments onto the center of the table with a concussive thud.
"Under emergency judicial orders executed by Chief District Judge Evelyn Montgomery at dawn," Frank announced, his voice cutting through the silent room like a broadsword, "Vittorio Serra and Marcus Cole of Boston have been formally indicted for Federal Kidnapping, Corporate Extortion, Grand Maritime Larceny exceeding forty million dollars, and Racketeering under the RICO Act."
Frank connected his tablet to the seventy-foot digital display wall.
The massive screens illuminated instantly in four-K clarity:
First came the unedited audio recording extracted from the velveteen rabbit; next came the forensic digital audit of the erased forty minutes of camera footage from the carriage house; and finally, Vittorio’s sworn video confession detailing the planned takeover of the Brooklyn container berths.
The boardroom erupted into furious, deafening outrage.
Veteran caporegimes jumped to their feet, slamming their fists onto the mahogany, demanding immediate, total retribution against the Cole syndicate.
Aleandro raised a single hand.
The entire eighty-man assembly fell into an immediate, absolute silence.
Aleandro leaned forward, his slate-gray eyes locking onto the leaders of his empire with sovereign authority.
"We do not fight this war with street chaos," Aleandro declared, his deep baritone carrying clear and steady. "Marcus Cole was arrested at his private estate in Boston two hours ago by federal tactical teams. Every shipping berth, every container crane, and every offshore account owned by the Cole syndicate has been seized under federal receivership."
Aleandro looked down at Vittorio Serra.

"You wanted an empire, Vittorio," Aleandro whispered, his voice dropping into sub-zero granite. "Now you will spend the rest of your natural days in an eight-by-ten concrete cell in ADX Florence, where no one will ever speak your name again."
Four federal marshals stepped forward, clicking heavy steel transport chains around Vittorio’s wrists and ankles, dragging the disgraced predator from the boardroom as the entire assembly watched in stony, condemning silence.
