Chapter 7 - The Cleansing of the Estate

Within forty-eight hours of the tribunal at Pier 42, the Moretti estate on Long Island underwent a profound, historic rebirth.
Every security camera, access terminal, and digital relay in the thirty-two-room stone mansion was completely overhauled under Marco DeLuca’s personal supervision.
The carriage house where Elena and Mia had lived in small servant quarters was completely demolished. In its place, Aleandro commissioned the construction of an expansive, sunlit stone pavilion designed by master Italian architects, featuring wide cedar wrap-around porches, open libraries, and panoramic views of the Atlantic bluffs.
Elena’s recovery was rapid and miraculous.
Surrounded by clean ocean air, the best medical care in New York, and the unwavering devotion of the household staff, the color returned to her cheeks and her radiant, gentle smile returned to brighten the manor.
She was officially appointed as the Executive Director of the Elena & Mia Rossi Foundation for Maternal and Child Protection—a sixty-million-dollar philanthropic trust dedicated to providing emergency housing, legal defense, and pediatric healthcare for vulnerable single mothers and domestic workers across the Eastern Seaboard.
Mia was enrolled in the elite Long Island Country Day School, excelling at the top of her class, her bright laughter and energetic footsteps filling every corner of the house.
On a crisp, sunny Saturday morning in late spring, Aleandro and Elena stood on the wide stone terrace overlooking the south gardens, sipping fresh roast coffee.
Down on the emerald green lawn near the garden fountain, four-year-old Mia was running with energetic, fearless speed, playing tag with Barnaby, a playful golden retriever puppy Aleandro had gifted her for her fourth birthday.
Mia was laughing—a clear, powerful, musical sound that carried across the water, her yellow dress glowing in the sunlight, holding her restored velveteen rabbit proudly by its mended ear.
Aleandro walked over, resting his strong arm gently around Elena’s waist, pulling her close against his broad chest.
"How does it feel, Executive Director Elena?" Aleandro asked softly, a warm, tender smile touching his lips.

Elena looked out over the sparkling expanse of the sound where our merchant vessels sailed peacefully toward the open horizon under a cloudless sapphire sky.
"It feels like daylight, Aleandro," Elena answered with a heart full of absolute, unbreakable peace. "Pure, sovereign daylight."
