Chapter 6 - The Restitution of the Vances

By Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., the grand executive boardroom of the Russo Maritime Tower was convened for the formal restructuring of the family empire.
The thirty-two loyal division directors, terminal operators, and labor union representatives sat in rapt, respectful attention as Arthur Ross presented the unsealed testamentary charters.
I sat at the head of the table, holding Ella on my lap. The little girl was happily coloring in a picture of a lighthouse with a gold crayon, her slate-gray eyes bright and fearless.
Dante stood at my right hand, his presence commanding, protective, and completely at peace.
"Item one on today's agenda," Arthur Ross announced, "is the formal, permanent registration of the Thomas and Claire Vance Generational Maritime Trust, endowed with one hundred and twenty million dollars in liquid shipping assets and fifty percent of the permanent voting equity in Russo International."
Dante took the master gold-nibbed fountain pen—the pen his father had inherited thirty years ago—and signed the master charter:
CHIEF FIDUCIARY TRUSTEE: CLAIRE VANCE
SOVEREIGN GUARDIAN & PROTECTOR: DANTE RUSSO
PRIMARY HEIR: ELLA VANCE
I took the pen, my hand steady and graceful as I signed my name beneath his, sealing the union of our families under the law.
The entire boardroom erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
The longshoremen union delegates and fleet captains rose to their feet, raising their glasses in a joyful, roaring tribute that echoed through the high-vaulted glass atrium.
Dante turned to me, taking my hand into his strong, warm palm, looking into my eyes with an expression of profound, unbridled devotion.
"Your days of cleaning floors are over, Claire," Dante said softly, his voice rich with peace. "From this day forward, you are the Co-Sovereign of this house."
I smiled through tears of boundless joy, leaning my shoulder against his as Ella giggled, reaching up to touch both of our faces with her tiny, warm hands.

"And item two," Dante announced, looking down at Ella where she sat proudly in her chair. "The Ella Vance Foundation for Pediatric Allergy Research and Emergency Medication Access is officially endowed with fifty million dollars in permanent capital, guaranteeing free auto-injectors, emergency trauma care, and full educational scholarships for the children of every dockworker, domestic cleaner, and service employee across the eastern seaboard."
The applause roared through the vaulted cathedral ceilings like a rising tide, sealing a new era of honor, justice, and unshakeable truth.
