Chapter 5 - The Cleansing of the Board

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the grand executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Mercer Ridge Capital Tower overlooking Boston Harbor was convened for an extraordinary plenary session of the international shipping trustees and commercial banking directors.
The thirty-two senior division directors, deepwater port engineers, and maritime union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.
The morning front-page headlines of The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:
MERCER DYNASTY PURGES TREASONOUS FIANCÉE: GRANT MERCER EXPOSES $72M CONSPIRACY, PROMOTES HEROIC HOUSEKEEPER TO EXECUTIVE BOARD AND RECLAIMS ENTIRE HARBOR EMPIRE.
When the double frosted-glass doors swung open, every single executive in the room stood up in unison.
Grant Mercer walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, his posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.
Walking beside him, holding her head high with regal, sovereign dignity, was Hannah Brooks.
She wore her tailored navy suit with quiet, unyielding authority, holding the master leather portfolio containing the unsealed Delaware charters.
Sitting proudly in her own cushioned leather armchair at her right hand was her mother, Martha Brooks—radiantly healthy in an ivory knit suit, her wheelchair guided by a private nurse funded permanently by the Mercer Trust, tears of sacred pride glistening in her eyes.
Following behind them were Arthur Ross, Detective Marcus Thorne, and Chief Financial Auditor David Sterling, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Grand Cayman forensic ledgers.
Grant walked to the head of the table—the seat his father had abandoned and that he had spent twenty years defending. He pulled out the master executive armchair, gently seating Hannah at the center of the board, while placing Martha securely at their right hand, before taking his place standing firmly beside them.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Grant began, his deep baritone cutting through the vast room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of all corporate contracts, voting proxies, and advisory seats previously allocated to Derek Sloan, Richard Cole, and Apex Mezzanine Holdings."
The directors and union leaders nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single man signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.
"Item two," Grant continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The seventy-two million dollars in deepwater container terminal equity fraudulently encumbered under the forged side agreements has been fully restored to the Thomas Bennett and Hannah Brooks Generational Maritime Trust."
The room erupted into spontaneous, standing applause.
"And item three," Grant added, turning his gaze toward Hannah with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Hannah Brooks is hereby confirmed as Supreme Chief Executive Fiduciary and Head of Domestic and Operational Integrity of the unified Mercer-Brooks Global Maritime Consortium, with absolute veto authority over all commercial, legal, and operational expansions."
Hannah closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud.

"And furthermore," Grant announced, looking around the hall with sovereign pride, "the Hannah Brooks Foundation for Domestic Worker Legal Protection and Paralyzed Caregivers is officially endowed with fifty million dollars in permanent capital, guaranteeing full educational scholarships, emergency legal defense, and comprehensive housing security for the families of every housekeeper, cleaner, and service employee across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."
The longshoremen union delegates and terminal directors rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.
