Chapter 5 - The Cleansing of the Maritime Board

At 9:00 a.m. on Monday, the grand executive boardroom on the sixtieth floor of the Duca Sovereign Maritime Tower overlooking New York Harbor was convened for an emergency plenary session of the international shipping trustees and labor union directors.

The forty-two senior division directors, deepwater crane operators, and maritime union representatives sat around the eighty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, suffocating silence.

The morning front-page headlines of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Star-Ledger lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:

DUCA DYNASTY PURGES TREASONOUS HEIR: ALESSANDRO DUCA EXPOSES $50M MARITIME CONSPIRACY, RECLAIMS PORT NEWARK TERMINALS AND RESTORES VANCE FAMILY HONOR.

When the double frosted-glass doors swung open, every single executive in the room stood up in unison.

Alessandro Duca walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, radiating total, uncontested dominance.

Walking beside him, holding her head high with regal, sovereign dignity, was Elena Vance.

I wore an exquisite, custom-tailored dark navy wool three-piece suit with an ivory silk blouse, wearing my late husband’s restored gold signet compass around my neck.

In my arms, laughing and reaching for the crystal water carafes on the table, was eight-month-old Mia, wearing a clean white cotton dress and tiny patent leather shoes.

Following behind us were Arthur Ross, Detective Marcus Thorne of the State Police Major Crimes Division, and Lead Special Agent Sarah Lin of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, carrying four heavy aluminum Pelican cases containing the unsealed Delaware and Grand Cayman forensic ledgers.

Alessandro walked to the head of the table—the seat his father and grandfather had occupied for six decades. He pulled out the master executive armchair, gently seating me at the center of the board, while placing Mia securely in her own cushioned booster chair beside me, before taking his place standing firmly at our side.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Alessandro began, his deep baritone cutting through the vast room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent termination of all corporate contracts, voting proxies, and advisory seats previously allocated to Julian Duca and Apex Marine Holdings."

The directors and union leaders nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single man signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.

"Item two," Alessandro continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "The fifty million dollars in deepwater terminal equity fraudulently encumbered under the forged vouchers has been fully restored to the David, Elena, and Mia Vance Generational Trust."

The room erupted into spontaneous, standing applause.

"And item three," Alessandro added, turning his gaze toward me with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Elena Vance is hereby confirmed as Supreme Chief Executive Fiduciary and Head of Domestic and Port Operations of the unified Duca-Vance Global Maritime Consortium, with absolute veto authority over all commercial, legal, and operational expansions."

I closed the master leather ledger with a sharp, definitive thud.

"And furthermore," Alessandro announced, looking down at Mia where she sat happily chewing on a silver spoon, "the Mia Vance Foundation for Port Worker Widows and Children is officially endowed with fifty million dollars in permanent capital, guaranteeing full university scholarships, emergency healthcare, and comprehensive housing security for the families of every longshoreman, mechanic, and domestic cleaner across the eastern seaboard."

The longshoremen union delegates and terminal directors rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.
