Chapter 9 - The Boardroom of a New Era

At ten o'clock sharp, I walked into the grand executive boardroom on the top floor of Bennett Tower. The fifty members of the board of directors stood up in unison as I entered, their expressions a mix of profound respect, cautious admiration, and absolute deference.
At the head of the polished mahogany table sat the two hundred-million-dollar acquisition documents, bound in dark blue leather, waiting for my signature.
I walked slowly to the head of the table, pulling off my leather gloves and laying them neatly beside the folder. I looked around the room, meeting the eyes of the executives who had watched me build this enterprise from a single cramped desk in a basement office over forty years ago.
"Good morning, everyone," I said, my voice ringing clearly across the expansive room.
"Good morning, Madam Chair," the lead director responded respectfully.
"Today marks a turning point for Bennett Advanced Holdings," I announced, resting both hands on the edge of the table. "We are closing a chapter built on dead weight, corporate bloat, and misplaced charity. We are stepping into a future defined by absolute accountability, structural integrity, and uncompromising standards."
Murmurs of warm approval rippled around the table.
I picked up the heavy fountain pen resting beside the documents. My hand didn't shake. There was no hesitation, no lingering doubt, no shadow of the woman who had stood quietly in a restaurant dining room while her ungrateful son and his cruel wife mocked her existence.
I opened the folder, turned to the final signature page, and wrote my name with clean, decisive strokes.

Margaret Herrera.
The transaction was complete. The company was restructured, the dead branches had been pruned away, and the foundation was secure.
