Chapter 8 - The Vows on the Harbor

In August, beneath a brilliant sapphire sky, the private rooftop gardens of the Costello-Lin Tower in downtown Boston were decorated with thousands of white orchids, blooming hydrangeas, and fragrant lavender for our wedding.
There were no syndicate treaties, no forced alliances, and no shadows.
There were only sixty of our closest friends, our loyal staff, Thomas Bell, Dr. Sarah Lin, Detective Raymond Callahan, and the people who had stood beside us through the fire.
An antique cedar arbor adorned with cascading white roses stood at the edge of the terrace overlooking the panoramic expanse of Boston Harbor.
I walked down the petal-strewn aisle in an exquisite gown of ivory French lace, my dark hair styled in soft waves adorned with small pearl pins, my hazel eyes shining with boundless, radiant joy.
Walking before me, looking beautiful and healthy in an elegant lavender dress, was my sister Chloe, operating her motorized wheelchair with a proud, beaming smile, carrying the silver basket of rose petals on her lap.
Leo stood at the altar in a bespoke black tuxedo, his slate-gray eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that silenced the world.
When I reached his side, he took both of my hands into his, his fingers strong, warm, and trembling with sacred devotion.
Pastor Thomas, a kind maritime chaplain who had known Leo’s family for thirty years, smiled warmly as he raised his hands in blessing.
Leo took a slow, deep breath, his voice steady, rich, and vibrating with absolute, eternal love:
"Clara," Leo said, his eyes shining with pure peace. "For fifteen years, I lived in a world of stone and shadow, believing that power was measured only by the fear I commanded. You walked into my life, you stood against cruelty with unbroken courage, and you showed me that true power is the honor that protects the innocent and the love that refuses to compromise on the truth. Today, before God and your sister, I give you my life, my name, and my soul. I promise to stand between you and every storm, to cherish your brilliant mind, and to love you with an unbroken, sovereign truth for all the days of our lives."
Tears of pure, radiant joy spilled down my cheeks as I slipped the heavy platinum band onto his finger.
"Leo," I smiled through my tears, my voice full of boundless peace. "You tore down the walls of my fear to give my sister and me a real home. You showed me what a real protector looks like. I choose you today, tomorrow, and for all the days of our lives."
Pastor Thomas raised his hands in a quiet blessing. "By the power of love, truth, and restored honor, I pronounce you husband and wife."

Leo pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off the stone terrace, and kissed me—a deep, sacred promise of an unbroken future built on truth, courage, and unconditional love.
Chloe let out a joyful cheer, clapping her hands with pure delight, as the entire gathering erupted into thunderous, standing applause that echoed over the sparkling waters of the harbor in a song of triumphant joy.
