Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Foundation

That evening, the city lights sparkled across the dark waters of Lake Michigan, reflecting off the towering glass facade of the Apex BioTech building.

Inside his private office on the forty-fifth floor, Ethan sat at his desk, looking down at a framed photograph resting beside his laptop.

It was a picture of him, Arthur, and Martha Sterling taken on his first official day as Vice President, standing right in the center of the lobby where his jacket had been stripped away two years before.

He thought about Sarah Jenkins—wherever she was, likely wandering through another corporate ladder, trapped in her own small kingdom of cruelty. He realized then that people like her built their lives on sand, terrified that someone might steal their status or track mud across their floors.

But true power—real, lasting power—was never about marble pillars, titanium smartphones, or revolving doors.

It was about the foundation.

It was about the courage to stand up for a stranger in the cold, the wisdom to honor those who built the path before us, and the unshakeable belief that human dignity is the only currency that truly matters in this world.

The phone on his desk chimed softly.

Ethan picked up the receiver. "Ethan Sterling speaking. How can I help you?"

"Come down to the lobby, Ethan," Arthur’s voice came over the line, warm and steady. "Maman brought extra pie, and we have a new batch of visitors who need to be treated like family."

Ethan smiled, slipping his jacket on, and walked toward the private elevator.

The doors slid open, carrying him smoothly downward through a building that stood tall, anchored in truth, protected by grace, and built on an unshakeable foundation that nothing in this world could ever tear down.
