Chapter 8 - The Cleansing of the Board

At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, the grand executive boardroom on the top floor of the DeLuca Maritime Tower in downtown Chicago was convened for an emergency plenary session.

The thirty-two senior directors, international shipping partners, and maritime labor union representatives sat around the sixty-foot mahogany conference table in dead, breathless silence.

The morning front-page headlines of The Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal lay spread across the polished table, every banner dominated by the same earth-shattering revelation:

VANCE CONSPIRACY CRUSHED IN PROBATE COURT: DELUCA SYNDICATE SEIZES APEX CAPITAL AMID $80M HEALTHCARE FRAUD SCANDAL.

When the double frosted glass doors slid open, every single person at the table stood up in unison.

Damian DeLuca walked into the boardroom, dressed in an immaculate bespoke charcoal three-piece suit, his posture radiating total, uncontested dominance.

Walking beside him, holding his arm with quiet, regal dignity, was Natalie Carter.

She wore an elegant dark navy wool dress, her dark hair combed in a graceful twist, wearing a vintage gold signet watch on her wrist.

Following behind them were Victoria Sterling and Chief Corporate Litigator David Ross, carrying four heavy leather binders containing the unsealed Delaware forensic ledgers.

Damian walked to the head of the table—the seat his family had occupied for four generations. He pulled out the executive chair, gently seating Natalie at his right hand, before taking his place at the center of the board.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Damian began, his deep baritone cutting through the room with absolute authority. "Item one on today's agenda is the formal, permanent integration of Apex Capital Logistics into the newly restructured DeLuca-Carter Sustainable Maritime Consortium."

The directors nodded in rapid, unanimous agreement, every single director signing the emergency restructuring resolutions without a single objection.

"Item two," Damian continued, looking around the table with cold, penetrating clarity. "All four hundred dockworkers, warehouse mechanics, and truck drivers from the acquired Vance facilities will receive immediate guarantees of their full pension reserves, comprehensive private healthcare, and a twenty-percent retention bonus funded directly from the seized Vance assets."

The labor union delegates stood up, the room erupting into thunderous, standing applause that echoed off the glass walls overlooking Lake Michigan.

"And item three," Damian added, turning his gaze toward Natalie with boundless, unshakeable devotion. "Natalie Carter is hereby confirmed as Executive Vice-Chairwoman of the Board and Chief Trustee of the Ava DeLuca Neuro-Diversity and Pediatric Healthcare Foundation, endowed with one hundred million dollars in permanent capital."

The board members and union leaders rose to their feet, their cheers echoing through the high-vaulted glass atrium, sealing the dawn of an unshakeable, unified empire built on honor, loyalty, and truth.
