Chapter 10 - The Open Horizon

Two years after the storm, my life looked entirely different.
I was thirty-six years old, the sole controlling owner of one of the most successful tech analytics platforms in the country, and completely, unapologetically happy.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, I stood on the deck of a lakeside restaurant near Lake Travis, watching the sun sparkle across the water. The breeze caught the hem of my emerald green sundress, and I took a slow sip of sparkling water.
Life hadn't turned out the way I planned at 7:13 on that Monday morning two years ago. It turned out infinitely better.
I had learned that betrayal doesn't destroy you—it purifies you. It burns away the dead weight, the parasites, and the illusions, leaving behind only what is real, strong, and true.
“Thinking about expanding into the European market?” a deep, warm voice asked beside me.
I turned my head to see Julian Vance—no relation to Jonathan, thank goodness—a brilliant supply-chain architect we had recently partnered with, smiling down at me with genuine warmth in his eyes. He had the kind of smile that didn't hide secrets, and hands that built things instead of stealing them.
“Maybe,” I smiled, resting my arms against the railing and looking out over the endless horizon. “Let’s conquer Texas first.”

Julian laughed, stepping closer and resting his hand gently over mine.
I didn't flinch. I didn't look back. I just looked forward into the bright, open future, knowing that whatever came next, I had built it myself—and no one could ever take it away.
