Chapter 5 - The Press Conference

The lobby of LatticePoint Solutions was packed to the gills by 9:45 AM on Wednesday. Cameras flashed, reporters murmured anxiously, and microphones crowded the podium like a forest of metal stalks.

I walked out of the elevator precisely at 10:00 AM, flanked by Marcus and David Thorne, my high-powered litigator.

The room instantly fell dead silent. Every eye was locked on me.

I stepped up to the podium, adjusted the microphone, and looked directly into the camera lenses.

“Thank you all for coming,” I began, my voice clear, steady, and amplified across dozens of broadcast feeds. “Over the past forty-eight hours, there have been numerous rumors regarding internal changes at LatticePoint Solutions, largely framed as a personal dispute. I am here today to clear the air.”

I clicked a remote in my hand, projecting a series of financial documents onto the massive digital screen behind me.

“Yesterday morning, I relieved former Executive Vice President Evan Pierce and former Chief Financial Officer Natalie Cross of their duties,” I stated clearly. “Not because of personal disagreements. But because an internal forensic audit revealed a systematic embezzlement scheme totaling 2.4 million dollars, funneled into an illegal shell company.”

Gasps echoed through the room. Flashbulbs went off in a blinding frenzy.

“Furthermore,” I continued, clicking to the next slide, which displayed the draft contract with Vanguard Tech, “we have uncovered documented evidence of an ongoing corporate espionage conspiracy involving our chief competitor, Vanguard Tech, aimed at stealing LatticePoint’s proprietary technology.”

In the back of the room, I saw a familiar face—a reporter for the *Austin Business Chronicle* turning pale, furiously typing into his phone.

“To our clients, our investors, and our employees: LatticePoint is stronger than ever. The stolen funds have already been frozen, federal authorities have been notified, and massive civil lawsuits have been filed against all involved parties,” I concluded, scanning the crowd. “We built this company on innovation, integrity, and hard work. No amount of betrayal will ever change that. Thank you.”

I turned and walked off the stage before a single reporter could shout a question.
