Chapter 5 - The Confession in Chains

A collective, deafening roar of outrage and shock erupted from the twelve board members.
Directors jumped out of their seats, shouting in revulsion, while Isabel’s two corporate defense attorneys hurriedly closed their briefcases and backed away toward the corner of the room, refusing to stand anywhere near her.
"This is an outrageous fabrication!" Isabel shrieked, her voice rising to a feral, hysterical pitch as she pointed a shaking finger at me. "She’s insane! Security! Eject these intruders from the floor immediately! I am the Chairman of this board!"
Matthew Carranza stepped forward, placing a certified document stamped with the gold seal of the United States District Court directly onto the table.
"As of 8:00 AM today, Mrs. Vargas," Matthew declared, his deep baritone cutting through the chaos like an iron blade, "the Carranza Sovereign Trust exercised its statutory default clause against your forty-nine percent operational equity. Furthermore, the Surrogate's Court has unsealed the original testamentary trust of Marcus Vance."
Matthew turned to the seventy-foot digital display wall, tapping his smartphone once.
The massive screens illuminated instantly, displaying the live, unedited four-K footage from the Maybach’s dashboard camera: Isabel’s SUV violently ramming our bumper, followed by the recorded audio of her telephone call instructing Matthew to ignore my cries for help and allow her private enforcers to take me to an unlicensed asylum.
Next came the banking flowcharts showing the thirty-two wire transfers to Dr. Rusk and the forensic spectrometry graphs proving the extraction of digitalis glycosides from Marcus Vance’s private tea collections.
Isabel collapsed into her leather armchair, hyperventilating, her aristocratic veneer completely pulverized into dust.
"Elena... please," Isabel whimpered, tears cutting clean tracks through her expensive foundation as she looked up at me with raw, pathetic desperation. "I raised you for four years! I gave you this home! You don't know what your father was like... he was going to divorce me with nothing!"
I walked slowly around the table, stopping two feet from where she sat.
I looked down at the woman who had locked me in a room, who had struck me across the face, and who had murdered the father who loved me.
"You didn't raise me, Isabel," I whispered, my voice steady, cold, and final. "You parasitized my family. And now, justice will have what remains."
Detective Callahan stepped forward, pulling a pair of heavy steel transport handcuffs from his duty belt.
"Isabel Vargas," Callahan announced. "You are under arrest for First-Degree Premeditated Murder of Marcus Vance, Federal Human Trafficking, Corporate Forgery, and Grand Larceny exceeding fifty million dollars."

As the steel cuffs clicked tightly around Isabel’s wrists, she let out a piercing, animalistic wail, thrashing against the officers as she was dragged down the center aisle of her own boardroom in heavy chains.
I stood at the head of the obsidian table, unruffled, sovereign, and completely unbroken, watching the predator who had terrorized my life be carried away into the dark forever.
