Chapter 10 - The Unshakable Foundation

The following Sunday morning, the dawn broke over Lake Michigan in brilliant ribbons of gold, rose, and amber, turning the vast expanse of water into a glittering, tranquil mirror.
Noah walked along the concrete promenade near the harbor, dressed in a simple wool sweater, dark trousers, and sturdy leather boots, carrying two paper cups of hot coffee from the local bakery.
Beside him walked Victoria Vance, wrapped in a warm camel-hair coat, her arm linked securely through Noah’s.
They walked in comfortable, peaceful silence, listening to the gentle lapping of the waves against the seawall and the distant cries of gulls wheeling in the morning air.
They stopped near the outer pier, looking out toward the active flight lines in the distance where a massive commercial airliner bearing the new silver-and-blue crest of the Sterling & Carter fleet was gliding smoothly out toward the open horizon, climbing gracefully into the cloudless sky.
"Do you ever miss the garage, Noah?" Victoria asked softly, looking up at him with immense, affectionate pride.
Noah looked down at her, taking a slow sip of his coffee, feeling the warm morning breeze brush against his face.
He thought of the cold tarmac at midnight. He thought of his father’s old blueprints in the basement. He thought of the wrecked apartment, the secret ledger, and the six words that had rewritten his destiny.

"I have the foundation right here with me, Victoria," Noah smiled, gently squeezing her hand. "When your life is built on truth and justice, the storms of the world can never shake you."
They stood together on the edge of the great city, watching the golden sun rise higher into the cloudless sky, knowing with absolute, eternal certainty that the house they had built together would stand strong, shelter the fallen, and endure for generations to come.
