Chapter 5 - The Unsealed Ledger

By 6:00 p.m., the seventy-fifth-floor penthouse of the Mendoza Sovereign Tower on Brickell Avenue was illuminated by the warm, golden glow of a massive gas fireplace and three crystal chandeliers.
Isabella sat in a deep velvet armchair overlooking the bay, wearing an elegant dark navy cashmere sweater and tailored white trousers. A steaming cup of chamomile tea sat on the low mahogany table beside her, accompanied by a plate of warm artisan pastries her childhood chef had prepared.
Sitting across from her in a matching armchair was Alejandro Mendoza, reviewing a three-hundred-page forensic audit prepared by his senior accounting directors.
"The betrayal was premeditated from the third month of your marriage, Isabella," Alejandro said, his voice rich with quiet paternal gravity. "Diego was working directly with Camila’s father, Julian Sterling—the managing director of Apex Venture Capital."
Isabella took a slow sip of her tea, her amber eyes reflecting the dancing flames in the hearth. "Show me the records, Father."
Alejandro rotated his tablet, displaying the decrypted banking logs from Grand Cayman and Zurich.
"Julian Sterling promised Diego a twenty-million-dollar private liquidity payout upon the successful execution of the IPO," Alejandro explained. "On the explicit condition that you were legally excised from the corporate cap table with zero equity and an ironclad non-disclosure agreement. They intended to take our proprietary logistics algorithms, spin them off into a foreign shell corporation, and leave Mendoza Infrastructure with forty million dollars in unhedged server liabilities."
"They thought an orphan with no family would never have the resources to audit their offshore accounts," Isabella said softly.
"They forgot who laid the fiber-optic cables beneath this city, my darling," Alejandro replied, reaching across the table, taking his daughter’s hand into his strong, warm palm. "You spent two years showing them patience. Now we show them the law."
The double oak doors of the private penthouse library clicked open.
Arthur Ross walked into the room, accompanied by Commander Marcus Vance and Chief Federal Prosecutor Sarah Lin.
"The federal court in Miami signed the grand jury indictments thirty minutes ago, Mr. Mendoza," Prosecutor Lin announced, placing an unsealed, gold-embossed dossier on the table. "Julian Sterling was arrested at his private hangar at Miami Executive Airport as he attempted to board a private flight to Nassau."
Isabella stood up, walking to the panoramic glass windows overlooking the glittering ocean.
The clouds had parted, revealing a vast, infinite indigo sky illuminated by a million cold, brilliant stars.
"Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, Arthur," Isabella said, her voice carrying the absolute, sovereign authority of her bloodline.

"What are your orders, Miss Mendoza?" Arthur asked with a respectful bow.
"We convene the plenary session of the international shareholders," Isabella answered. "And we erase the name NovaLink from the global market forever."
