Chapter 7 - The Confession in the Library

Later that night, long after the guests had departed and the heavy oak doors of the mansion were locked, Nico’s wheelchair rolled silently down the dark hallway toward the medical annex. He found Adeline sitting at her small desk, reviewing the photographic evidence and the hidden pill samples she had gathered over the past two months.
She didn't try to hide the specimen bag. She looked up, her expression calm, bracing for whatever dismissal or threat he was about to deliver.
Nico stared at the old running shoe on the floor, then up at the clear plastic bag containing the altered sedative pills. “What is that?” he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
“Proof,” Adeline said plainly. “Proof that someone in this house is systematically poisoning you to ensure your legs never recover and your mind stays pliable enough to sign away your corporate assets.”
Nico didn't shout. He didn't deny it. Instead, a dark, heavy shadow fell across his features. He had suspected it for weeks—the creeping paralysis that felt deeper than his injury, the brain fog that made multi-million dollar contracts look like ancient runes. But hearing a twenty-seven-year-old private nurse confirm his darkest paranoia hit him like a physical blow.

“Camille?” he asked, the name tasting like ash in his mouth.
“Camille is the delivery mechanism,” Adeline answered honestly. “Dr. Vance writes the prescriptions. And your cousin Marcus is orchestrating the corporate takeover the moment you're declared mentally unfit. You’re surrounded, Mr. Alfieri. And if you keep taking what they give you, you won't survive the month.”
