Chapter 5 - The Siege of Apex Logistics

At nine o'clock the following morning, the private executive headquarters of Apex Logistics in downtown Boston was placed under complete, synchronized lockdown.
The thirty-seat boardroom on the twenty-fourth floor, overlooking the stormy waters of Boston Harbor, was packed with the twelve members of the board of directors and senior partners from the Boston maritime syndicate.
Marcus Sterling sat at the head of the obsidian table, dressed in a sharp bespoke pinstripe suit, his diamond cufflinks catching the halogen lights as he finalized the acquisition documents for the New York container routes.
"Gentlemen," Marcus announced with a smug, victorious grin. "With the sudden operational restructuring of the Moretti family trust following recent tragic domestic developments, Apex Logistics is officially assuming sixty percent of the Atlantic deep-water shipping lanes."
The heavy double mahogany doors of the boardroom were kicked open with concussive, explosive force.
The two private security guards standing outside were thrown onto the floor as six armed tactical operatives from the Moretti strike force entered the room with carbines raised at the high ready.
Every director at the table jumped to their feet in sheer, paralyzed terror.
Rocco Moretti strode into the boardroom.
He wore an impeccably tailored charcoal three-piece suit beneath a heavy black wool overcoat, his presence commanding immediate, breathless silence across the entire floor.
Beside him walked Thomas Russo, carrying two heavy steel briefcases containing unsealed federal indictments and forensic banking ledgers.
Marcus Sterling froze, his gold pen slipping from his fingers, clattering loudly against the obsidian table. "Rocco...? What is the meaning of this? This is a private corporate assembly! You have no jurisdiction in Massachusetts!"
Thomas Russo stepped forward, slamming three thick certified probate decrees onto the center of the table with a concussive thud.
"Under emergency asset forfeiture decrees issued by the United States District Court at 6:00 AM today, Marcus," Thomas announced, his voice cutting through the room like a broadsword, "Apex Logistics is under active federal seizure for Racketeering, Attempted Premeditated Murder of a Minor, Corporate Wire Fraud, and Interstate Human Trafficking."
Thomas opened his tablet, connecting it to the seventy-foot digital display wall.
The massive screens illuminated instantly, displaying Dr. Calvin Sterling’s video confession, the banking routing numbers connecting Marcus's shell accounts to Valentina Moretti’s trust, and the GPS tracking data of the courier van.
The boardroom erupted into furious, panicked shouts. Directors shoved their chairs back in open horror, stepping away from Marcus Sterling as if he were covered in a lethal plague.
Marcus backed against the panoramic glass window, his face pale as wet chalk, his hands trembling violently. "This... this is an extortion scheme! You can't prove I ordered anything to be destroyed!"
Rocco walked slowly down the length of the long table, stopping two feet from where Marcus stood trembling.
"You didn't order a building destroyed, Marcus," Rocco whispered, his voice dropping into a register of icy, lethal stillness. "You ordered my son thrown into the dark."
Rocco reached out, his powerful hand clamping around Marcus’s throat, lifting the grown man three inches off the floor, slamming his spine hard against the reinforced glass window.
"If you ever speak my family's name again, Marcus," Rocco said softly, his slate-gray eyes burning with pure, unyielding vengeance, "I will not call the federal marshals. I will drop you into the harbor."
Rocco released his grip, letting Marcus collapse onto the floor, gasping and clutching his bruised throat.
Four armed federal marshals stepped through the doorway, flashing gold shields, clicking heavy steel transport chains around Marcus Sterling’s wrists and ankles.

As the disgraced corporate predator was dragged from his own boardroom in chains, Rocco turned to the remaining directors.
"The Boston shipping lanes belong to the Moretti Consortium now," Rocco declared. "And this harbor will be operated with honor."
