Chapter 6 - The Recovery of Maria

By two o'clock that afternoon, a convoy of three armored black SUVs arrived at the iron gates of a secluded private medical estate in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Rocco and Dr. Mateo Reyes strode through the front entrance, accompanied by four private security officers.

In the sunlit second-floor recovery suite, twenty-six-year-old Maria Santos sat in an armchair by the window, looking out over the autumn gardens with tears streaming down her pale cheeks. She wore a simple hospital gown, her hands resting over her empty abdomen, grieving the child she had been told had died during delivery.

The door clicked open softly.

Maria flinched, looking up in fear, but when she saw Rocco Moretti standing in the doorway, her breath caught in her throat.

"Don Rocco...?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "I'm so sorry... the doctors told me he didn't make it... I tried everything I could—"

"Maria," Rocco said gently, stepping into the room.

He stepped aside.

Elena Bellini walked through the door, carrying the sleeping newborn wrapped in a warm white blanket, followed by eight-year-old Sophia.

Maria stared at the bundle. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out. She slowly stood up from her chair, her knees trembling so violently that Dr. Reyes had to support her arm.

"Is that...?" she choked out.

"This is your son, Maria," Rocco said softly, his voice rich with deep, enduring emotion. "He is alive. He is healthy. And he was brought back to us by this brave little girl."

Maria collapsed onto her knees on the soft rug, reaching out with shaking hands as Elena gently lowered the baby into her arms.

The young mother buried her face against her baby’s warm, fragrant chest, weeping with the raw, miraculous joy of a woman whose world had been resurrected from the grave.

"My baby... my sweet baby boy..." Maria sobbed, kissing his soft dark hair, his tiny cheeks, and his small curling fingers.

Rocco knelt beside her on the floor, resting his hand gently over the baby’s back.

"His name is Leonardo," Rocco said softly. "Leonardo Rocco Moretti. And you will never have to hide or live in fear again."

He handed Maria a certified legal folio stamped with the gold seal of the State Supreme Court.

"This is a permanent family covenant," Rocco explained. "You will have a private estate on the Long Island compound, full parental visitation rights, and a fifty-million-dollar independent endowment for your life. You are the mother of my heir, and this family will honor you forever."

Maria looked up at Rocco through her tears, smiling with profound, unburdened peace. "Thank you, Don Rocco. Thank you."
