Chapter 6 - The Fall of Marco Bellini

Frank Callahan stepped forward, slamming three thick certified volumes of federal indictments onto the center of the mahogany table with a concussive thud that rattled the remaining glassware.

"Under emergency judicial warrants executed by Chief District Judge Evelyn Montgomery at 9:00 PM," Frank announced, his voice booming across the silent hall like a broadsword, "Marco Bellini and his executive associates are under active federal indictment for Attempted Premeditated Murder, Interstate Racketeering under the RICO Act, Corporate Embezzlement exceeding sixty million dollars, and Obstruction of Justice."

Frank connected his tablet to the ballroom's seventy-foot digital display wall.

The massive screens illuminated instantly in four-K clarity:

First came the decrypted bank wire confirmations from Zurich showing Marco's private shell accounts absorbing sixty million in stolen Moretti maritime tariffs; next came the forensic metallurgical report proving Marco’s personal mechanic in White Plains had tampered with Elena’s brake lines; and finally, the audio recording recovered from Marco’s private cloud server where he explicitly ordered the assassination of Dominic’s unborn child to ensure his own succession to the chairmanship.

The ballroom erupted into deafening, chaotic fury.

Senior caporegimes shoved their chairs back in open revulsion, shouting curses at Marco Bellini, stepping away from him as if he were covered in a lethal plague.

Old Salvatore Vane slammed his fist onto the table, his face red with rage. "You tried to murder the Don's pregnant wife, Marco? You brought shame upon our fathers' names for asphalt and container berths?"

Marco backed against the wainscoting, hyperventilating, his aristocratic composure completely pulverized into dust.

"Dominic... please!" Marco wept, his hands coming up in a desperate, frantic plea. "Your father promised my family thirty percent of the Red Hook terminal! You were going to legalize the entire fleet and leave us with nothing! I did it for the family! I did it to keep the syndicate strong!"

Dominic walked slowly around the table, stopping twelve inches from where Marco stood trembling in pathetic ruin.

He did not raise a weapon. He did not strike him with his fist.

Dominic reached out, his powerful hand clamping around Marco’s silk tie, pulling the traitor forward until their faces were inches apart.

"You killed my peace for five years, Marco," Dominic whispered, his voice vibrating with lethal, absolute finality. "You left the woman I loved to sew hems for bread while you wore my father's gold. You will spend the rest of your natural days in an eight-by-ten concrete cell in ADX Florence, where the only thing you will ever hear is the sound of your own breathing in the dark."

Dominic released his grip with cold, effortless disgust.

Special Agent Raymond Callahan stepped forward, unsealing heavy steel transport chains.

"Marco Bellini," Agent Callahan announced. "You are under federal arrest."

As the armed federal marshals clicked the steel cuffs around Marco’s wrists and dragged the screaming, sobbing traitor from the ballroom, Dominic turned his back on the past forever.

He took my hand, lifting my knuckles to his lips in front of the entire assembled leadership of House Moretti.

"Caporegimes of House Moretti," Dominic commanded, his voice ringing with undisputed sovereignty. "Bow to your Donna."

Every single man in that room dropped to one knee on the hardwood floor, lowering their heads in unanimous, profound reverence.
