Chapter 9 - The Vows on the Bluffs

That winter, on a crisp, snowy Saturday afternoon in December—exactly five years after an empty coffin was placed in the frozen earth—the private cedar chapel on the bluffs of the Long Island estate was decorated with thousands of blooming white roses, fragrant pine boughs, and flickering beeswax candles.

It was our wedding day.

There were no syndicate treaties, no political alliances, and no fear.

There were only sixty of our closest friends, our loyal staff, Mrs. Ferrara, Mrs. Alvarez, Dr. Sarah Lin, Assistant U.S. Attorney Marcus Reed, and the working-class families from the Brooklyn docks who had stood with us through the storm.

An antique cedar arbor adorned with cascading white orchids stood at the edge of the limestone terrace overlooking the crystal-blue expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

A string quartet played a sweet, triumphant Italian melody as I walked down the petal-strewn aisle.

I wore an exquisite, custom-tailored gown of ivory French lace that I had hand-stitched myself, my chestnut hair styled in soft waves adorned with delicate pearl pins, the restored Saint Jude medallion glowing proudly against my heart.

Walking before me, looking healthy, radiant, and full of unshadowed childhood happiness, was five-year-old Lily, acting as our flower girl, wearing a pretty red velvet dress and tossing rose petals from a silver basket with a proud, beaming smile.

Beside Lily trotted Barnaby, wearing a clean leather collar adorned with a small white silk bow.

Dominic stood at the altar in a bespoke black tuxedo, his dark eyes locked onto mine with an intensity that silenced the world.

When I reached his side, he took both of my hands into his, his fingers strong, warm, and trembling with sacred devotion.

Father Thomas, a kind parish priest who had served our community for thirty years, smiled warmly as he raised his hands in blessing.

Dominic took a slow, deep breath, his voice steady, rich, and vibrating with absolute, eternal love:

"Elena," Dominic said, looking deep into my eyes. "For five years, I was a man living in a tomb of stone and shadow, believing that power was measured by fear and the vengeance I could inflict upon my enemies. You endured the dark with unbroken dignity, you protected our daughter with your own soul, and our child brought me back from the dead with a single photograph. Today, before God and our daughter, I give you my life, my name, and my soul. I promise to stand between you and every storm, to cherish your brilliant heart, and to love you and Lily with an unbroken, sovereign truth for all the days of our lives."

Tears of pure, radiant joy spilled down my cheeks as I slipped the heavy platinum band onto his finger.

"Dominic," I smiled through my tears, my voice full of boundless peace. "You tore down the walls of our prison to bring our family home. You gave my daughter a father who commands the light. I choose you today, tomorrow, and for all the days of our lives."

Father Thomas raised his hands in a quiet blessing. "By the power of love, truth, and restored honor, I pronounce you husband and wife."

Dominic pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off the stone terrace, and kissed me—a deep, sacred promise of an unbroken future built on truth, courage, and unconditional love.

Lily let out a joyful cheer, running forward to wrap her small arms around both of our legs, giggling as Dominic scooped both of us up into his embrace, holding his wife and daughter against his beating heart as the winter sun turned the ocean to molten gold.
